I wonder if anyone has experienced this situation....
Today I rang the organisation that I took out contents insurance with in March this year. I was enquiring a potential claim to have my locks changed due to lost keys. After giving me advice, the lady I was speaking with offered me an add-on product to my current insurance to do with losing keys. I advised I would have to check the other person I hold the insurance with. She said that no one else was listed on my insurance. I explained that when I bought the insurance it was for myself and my friend who lived together. She then said that I had a joint policy which was for family members or partners and not a shared policy which is for house share arrangements.
She rang me back several hours later advising that they had listened to my original call when I purchased my insurance and stated that I asked for joint insurance, and according to her I have now told her this is not the truth - and therefore because I did not disclose the correct information, my insurance has been cancelled with immediate effect. I explained that this was a misunderstanding of what 'joint' meant and I was never offered the option of 'shared', all to no avail.
My concern is that this is now on my record, and when I try to get other insurance I will have to disclose that I have had an insurance policy cancelled.
Has anyone had this experience, and if so, what did they do about it?
Thanks in advance,0 -
Can anyone help me with a contents insurance query : (
I have contents cover with Esure and got home sun evening to find out my fish tank which is 18 months old had leaked all over my living room floor. The carpet is sodden, it has gone up the skirting boards and a little water has appeared on the walls. Also a small sofa bed has water damage.
Someone is coming out to look at my carpets but they tell me they won't cover the tank due to wear and tear : ( I cannot understand this as it cracked at the bottom and caused the leak. Have had to replace it, as somehow the fish survived over 30 mins in an empty tank and had to fish them out the toilet as they were 'dead' and suddenly came back to life.
Wanted a second opinion as whether I should fight this or just take it as bad luck. Tank manufacturer don't want to know either even though it's in the 2 year warranty period as they only cover seals!0 -
wondering if anyone can help me out here...
10 days before moving & this morning our buyer has pulled out, saying that he can't insure the property.
the survey says that 'distortion is present to the propery as shown by sloping floors & windows' & 'it is not clear what has caused the movement - it is possible that subsistance has occurred' although there is 'no sign of recent or ongoing movement was noted'.
we have not had a single problem with movement & we have lived in the property for over 12 years.
I have been told, that due to some change in policy, that very few companies will now even consider insuring a property which has had 'historical movement' even if that movement was over 50 years ago.
has anyone else come up against this?
does anybody know a way around it?
any help or advice would be very much appreciated!

...and of course I only discovered this when I tried to claim for a new camera that got smashed to the floor by a passing reveller at the Glastonbury Festival!!
It may be that I just have to accept that I'm not covered, but the fact is that the camera was new, AND I bought it twice (once from crazycameras.co.uk who scarpered with my money, and then from Amazon who didn't).
My question is, does anyone have any advice of where else to go? I simply loose track of how many times and in how many ways I'm covered (it seems that 'cover' gets thrown in as a freebie with so many other products) and I wondered if anyone out there has had a similar experience, and put their finger right on the point before I start trawling every receipt, car, house and work memberships etc!
Thanking you x x x0 -
Just got my contents renewal from the AA. 42% up on last year at £161. AA website quoted me £131. Used the comparison sites and then got a quote for the same level of cover from Directline at £67. Next went to Saga (usually expensive), they quoted £65 and then a box popped up saying if I phoned for a no commitment car quote, they would take off another £30!! So ended up paying just over £35. OK, so not as good as getting cashback too, but not too shabby. BTW, the car quote was over £400, so probably not going to them in September.0

Current Saga home policy is £471.44, Saga quoted £571.98 for renewal with Zurich.
Local broker quoted me £220.96 for same cover with Zurich!
Saga did the same with my motor insurance; renewal quote was £863.98 and local broker got me same cover for less than half that.
So much for Saga's great service to the over 50s and price guarantees etc.
Bye bye Saga.0 -
Hi guys,
anyone got any suggestions for house within 400m of a river? The issue is the river is further down in the village (approx 300m away/birds fly google maps) so would flood the whole village before me0 -
