    Hi,

just had my renewal for home insurance through from churchill.

Last year it was £137 and this year £187. So ive had a look around and aviva came up with £100 for the same policy, plus if you go through Quidco it states £75 cashback.

I went ahead and purchased this policy. My paymnet has been tracked and I have £55 cashback - not quite the £75 (unsure why not) as stated but at least this year I only pay £45 for home/contents insurance. Not bad. :T

Halifax don't charge extra and I find their quotes fairly average. HTH

    having a thick moment.

If Natwest reduced their premium to £318 but Barclays were quoting £280 doesn't that mean you still paid £38 more than you needed to?

    Hi guys,

anyone got any suggestions for house within 400m of a river? The issue is the river is further down in the village (approx 300m away/birds fly google maps) so would flood the whole village before me :)
Did you have any luck? A friend with same problem got one with Tesco and we got one just now with Co-op (online but plan on ringing them tomorrow to confirm - the 'assumptions' made no mention to distance from water, only asked if property has been flooded in the past).

  • We purchased a house 14 years ago which was nearing the end of an insurance monitoring claim for cracking. The insurance company paid up £8000 towards redecorations shortly after we took ownership but as a result of that claim we have never been able to get the property insured by anyone else and so are at the mercy of Legal & General to charge what they like - if we want like for like cover. Apart from forking out £400-500 for a new structural surveyors report can you suggest any other way or any insurance companies that would provide full structural cover? We extended the property a few years after we purchased it and it hasn't shown any signs of movements since - 12 years ago.

Got my renewal from Direct Line last week, its gone up 40% on what I paid last year. I rang and said I want to discuss (didn't ask for reduction or anything), the woman said thats the best price we can do. I said should I go elsewhere and she said yes.... Clearly Directline don't want my business anymore. I can get similar insurance for about £150 less, so I think I'm saying goodbye to DL!

    Morning all,
I'm not looking for cheap insurance, Im looking for EFFECTIVE insurance.
Following building an extension and the contractor using an incompetent plumber {email me if your in Neath area and need to know who to avoid} we have had three leaks loosing two floors and now yesterday a shower/floor and kitchen ceiling below.
BUT, our insurers (Direct Line) have FAILED to deal with any of this promptly to prevent continous damage and the last time took 3 weeks before they even sent any one to deal with it. Reported last nights shower fiasco at 9pm, plumber didn't get here till 09:30 this morning! when I called to chase it up they said they couldn't get a plumber and had given up but thought it too late to call and tell ME that! Now the plumber says that he has shut off the faulty joint (initially refusing to move the shower to do it!), but that they won't undertake repairs, only stop the leak! it's madness.
So. Can anyone point me at an insurer that actually attempts to DEAL with a claim and prevent further damge? Or maybe point out a good review site as it all seems to be about the cost here and not whether there's any actual service afterwards.
    thanks
