  • I've always had cover through Virgin home insurance as part of my original flexible mortgage with them.

Time has come to change though and I'm looking for better cover, not that I've had an issue but then again I've never claimed...

My biggest concern is contents and cover whilst away from home even abroad, I have some expensive camera gear (Approx £3k new) which I quite often take on holiday and would like this covered if possible and things like the other halfs engagement ring, are things like this covered normally or specially quoted for?

I'd rather pay for quality of insurance than somethings that's just cheap after scouring 'price comparison' sites, saves me £50 but I loose £5k in a claim :)

I work for the RBS group of home insurers and Virgin is one of the brancs we do, I work in home claims, and can answer pretty much all of the questions you have.
In order to pretect your items away from the home, you need ' PERSONAL POSSESSIONS' cover. this covers loss, theft and damage. However if one single item is worth over £2K you need to specify it on the policy,

I've been with my present insurer (via my mortgage provider) for years & the time has to come to seek out a better deal. However, I rec'd a renewal policy a few weeks ago (effective from 28 March) & am now outside the 14 day cooling off period.
I pay monthly (at no extra charge).
My question is: can I just cancel the policy & go elsewhere at any time or am I now tied to them for another 12 months?
  • Hi does anyone here have buildings & contents insurance with Halifax?

If so how did you find them?

Is it worth paying extra for legal protection as part of the Household Insusrance policy? This costs about £16.99 per year.

If you have legal protection though a household policy, is it also worth having legal protection through the car insurance policy, or is it duplicating the cover?:(

That's me that's confused, not the website :o

Would you wonderful peeps please help me get my head around Home Insurance?

I suppose I'm wondering which of the optional extras I need or that you would recommend. For example:

    - Legal Protection.... worth getting?
    - Accidental Damage (for both buildings and contents)... do I need or is the Standard enough
    - Cover for items away from home?

Once you add on things like above the premium fairly takes a hike!

Thanks so much in advance for any advice you may have :)

P.S. Being completely nosey I know, but would you mind sharing with me who you currently have your Insurance with and how much you paid?

    Evening all,

I'm thinking of renting out the upstairs of my house (in other words have some lodgers) to generate some much needed cash.

I was wondering what type of insurace I would need.

Would normal building insurance be ok or do I need landlords insurance?

    Many Thanks in advance!

    Help!

We are moving house on Tue, and the removals company have stipulated that we need contents insurance as their insurance is strictly limited. But which property do we insure? Insure the present place for 3 days and then change the address, or insure the new place if anyone will insure the furniture being put in place. So far I can't find anyone that will cover the latter, and I know that it is going to cost a lot more to insure the present place rather than the next one, but I won't be able to find out what I will get back from the premium... Has anyone else been in this position before? Thanks
