Used the various screenscrapers today to get quotes. Very good and found a reasonable Sainsburys one with a £30 voucher for signing up . Clicked over to the site to view it all and the quote went up by over £100 !! could not reduce it by much at all and certaily nowhere near the screenscraper price. Saw another qoute with Endsleigh which did not change when I clicked on their site so think will go with that but not doing anything until nearer the end of the month when current one expires.0

I am currently going through a claim with Barclays / Asprea and have got to the stage where work to be done has been agreed and I am to use my own contactor.I will shortly be sending the estimate in and if it is approved then work will commence. What we want to do is repair the damaged ceiling then in a few weeks do the decorating but how will the contactor get paid?
He will not want to wait for the few weeks so can I say the work is done and he gets paid then we can complete it later or will Asprea come out to check and therefore not pay?
I have known and used the contractor for 20 years so no problem there.
Hope this is clear as to what we want to do.0 -
Hi there, this is my first post so hope is is correct, i am changing my home & Contents insurance but am unsure about the no claims discount bonus, i have had insurance with Tesco for 3 years, i put in a claim at the end of the third year for old for new tv which was declined, do i still have to declare that? have i now got to start collecting no claims years again or do i still have 3 years no claims?
Thanks in advance for any replies...0 -
Just might save someone a few quid - my Home Insurance renewal from Direct Line came through and was way more than last year (£179.55 instead of £136 for contents). Rang them up to query it and they put me through to a "Loyalty Department" who immediately offered a 20 per cent discount. That took it to £137.55 - about the same as last year !! So always worth asking0

Hi
I really have to get some house contents insurance quickly as i will be going bankrupt soon (actually it will be a lilla that i apply for which is low income low assets ) iam getting help and advise for this on the bankrupcy boards.
Obviously when this happens i will really need insurance as i think i may not be able to get credit for a while and iam scared incase any off my appliances break down etc.
Iam living alone in a two bedroom house on benefits so i dont want to pay a fortune
I have never had contents insurance ever so dont know whats what !
Iam also trying to reduce my outgoing income as much as possible too at the moment and was thinking that the £7.99 a month i pay for my lap top to the whatever happens policy i took out with currys when i purchased it , could actually go to better use ie ..contents which may cover more items ?.
Iam with Quidco so would or could go through them
welcome any help and advise please
thank youResolve not to be poor, Whatever you have , Spend less.0 -
Hi, I am FTB and never have building or content insurance before. Now I am shopping around for the quote, there is a question about no claim in the past. Can I say no claim in the pass?0

course you can say no claim.0

nicola,
I phoned my insurance company (Lloyds TSB, i'm changing, they are slow and very poor when it comes to claims) about a claim for freezer contents.
I switched it off while decorating and forgot.
They asked me how much was the claim for, I said 80-120, they told me after my excess it would only leave me with about £50, I would lose that much on my no claims discount, so I didn't bother.
When I came to renew, this counted against me as a loss, not a claim, but it still counts.
In theory, when you take out insurance, you are supposed to tell them about any loss, breakages etc etc that you have had within a certain time, it may be 3 years or 5.
It doesn't matter if you had insurance or not, if you are somebody that has had the misfortune to burn down your house, lose 10 mobile phones, flood your bathroom, all within the space of a couple of years, you are deemed a high risk.
Of course, no one would ever tell them but you should.0 -
Get discount on both your contents AND your buildings insurance. Most companies are offering it on contents only. Yorkshire and Clydesdale bank are offering it on both till end of June I think. It makes a big difference! Don't think these guys are on comparison sites though?? Worht a shout I guess. And the quote system is only 2 pages, about 3mins long. Happy days!0

What discount is it they are offering then that other companies are not offering0
