Try taking building cover and contents out seperately as if you take them out combined then you do not receive the no claims discount on either, if you take them out seperately you will receive it on the buildings.
Its normally best to have building and contents together, but if your worried about the cost you could try doing them seperately for a year or two and then combine them again.0 -
Good idea, thanks. I honestly didn't even think about that, automatically thinking that the combined would be cheaper.
If I get a company which just asks if we have made a claim, or not, in the last 5 years, then could we just answer 'yes' honestly, as we have been claim-free?Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...:D:D

Yes, however if they ask if something along the lines of how many continuous years contents insurance have you got you will need to answer zero etc.
You may be able to get cash back if you use a site like https://www.quidco.co.uk if you do remember to clear the cookies in your computer and go back and get the quote through quidco or whichever cashback site you use0 -
Quick question, can you still change your insurance company if you're in the middle of claiming with them for some water damage? Been dragging on for 3/4 weeks nobody been out as yet, but got letter through the other day to renew, apparently no claims still applies as yet and won't only happen next year and takes 10% off (currently at 40%). It's just I usually change every year if I can to take advantage of better deals and quidco! Didn't know whether the possible claim would be affected by this. Was also interested to hear how much my no claims would be changed as excess is £150 so working out if it would be cheaper so get the work done (new kitchen ceiling fixed and plastered rather than paying the excess+loss of ncd). Any help anybody?0

I am only planning to carry on renting my house for the next 4 months. Is it possible to only get contents insurance on a monthly basis? Or, alternatively, is it more sensible to try and change the address of where the policy insures to a new address when I move?
Thanks for any suggestions.0 -
Can anyone help with the following problem.
Myself and my partner are moving into a rented property with a 3rd person but are struggling to find a company that can offer contents insurance as we are classed as sharers.
At the place we are moving out of myself and my partner were with barclays but they wont cover 3 people or more under their t&c.
The only insurer we have found so far that might cover is endsleigh.are they a good company??
Is there any companies any one knows of that will cover a 1st floor rented property,10 years old, that will cover 3 people!! thanks for any info offered.0 -
You can get a policy that will cover the three of you as joint policy holders with Norwich Union under their Home Plus Policy which is only available through brokers0

I was just going to post the same question! I will definitelyl be looking up the Norwich Union one someone has suggeseted, but we had great problems last year, as three single friends sharing a house. Only endsleigh covered us. There were others that I bought, having spent a long time clarifying on the phone that we'd be covered, only to find when the policy came through that we were not covered. Grr.
I've not had to claim fortunately this year, so can't say whether Endsleigh are good at paying up, etc.gerrardfan wrote: »Can anyone help with the following problem.

To get the Norwich Union policy for shared homes it has to be through a local broker as they don't normally offer it if you go direct. You may find the broker you ask does not know about it, ask them to ring NU up and confirm it, they will normally have to process it manually although they can sometimes do it on the delightful Norwich Union broking website but it will take them a while as their website is overly complicated.
You may find if you ask a broker who are situated in a town with a big student population they may know of other Insurers who offer cover.0 -
Hi - I will be moving into my first home (hopefully next week!) I'm going to be working from home and have seen some 'working from home' insurance products advertised. Would I need to get this on top on buildings and contents?
I don't really need the personal liability cover etc thats included as the only person who works with me is a self employed accountant and I dont have member of the public visiting.
Any idea on what cover I will need?
Thanks!0
