You look very under insured, it would be well worth you reviewing your sums insured. It looks like you have selected your Insurers minimum sums insured. For instance the average home is thought to have around £40000 of contents.
Thank you, I changed insurers in the end, I got up to £50000 contents and up to £400000 buildings!! For £157.15.
Not too bad I think

If you tell the insurance company you have an approved alarm and you don't use it when you are out of the house its your own fault. The monitoring system on approved alarms doesn't work if you don't switch it on so I would have thought it was fairly obvious you wouldn't be covered. You pay more for a monitored alarm because of the service and upkeep so you really should use it when you leave the house. The insurer knows that a switched off alarm is not going to alert anyone to a burglar in your house leaving them to help themselves to whatever they like. You have a discount for these alarms for a reason, you are less likely to be burgled because they instantly notify alarm company/police/fire brigade of a problem. I pay enough a month for mine so I use it.0 -
Good Day everyone, new here so please be gentle..
I have for the first time put a claim in as my darling 3yr old hit the corner of our LCD TV with a toy and has caused some damage.
I have been told that if the TV is deemed non repairable they will provide me with a replacement or cash, and take the old one away as scrap.
The old one is still usable and would be great for the kids room.
Do I have a legal right to buy this back from the insurance company ?
I remember reading somewhere that the original owner has first refusal ??
Your comments and advice gratefully recieved.
Apologies if this is not in the correct place.
Kind Regards0 -
I would not say anything to your Insurers at the moment as normally they do not bother collecting the damaged TV so you may end up with it for nothing. Obviously if they do request it you can make them an offer for it
Insurers will normally get theirn supplier to contact you and offer to either deliver the new tv to your home or send you a gift voucher you can use at their shop.0 -

Thanks dacouch
The Tv was collected by a company called CIIS, they will look at it and give a report to the Insurance company MMa I think, it was through Lloyds...
This is the first time ever I have had to claim and its going from bad to worse.. The loss adjusteres phoned yesterday asking to speak to my wife ! as she was present at the time.
So much for a simple process of make a call and all is fixed.
Any comments on the original thought of buying back the damaged Tv ? do i have a legal right of first refusal ?
Thanks all.0 -
They often don't bother to collect it so you were unfortunate their.
If you ring your Insurers and let them know you would be interested in buying the old tv. I would do this asap as the company that picked it up will sell it on soon or refurbish it themselves. So the sooner you ring your Insurer the better0 -
Hello again
My wife got the call asked the same questions they asked me and now have sent a form asking for proof of ownership !.
I have had a quick glance at the bank statements and I have a feeling I bought this with a Credit card that I no longer have, to add to my nightmare I cannot find the manuals.
Word of warning don`t use MMA !.
Guess I will have to suggest a declaration of ownership as my last resort.
Oh and they want a photo of the implement that caused the damage as well.

I need to renew our house insurance. Only problem is, we only took out buildings insurance last year, and had 5 years no claims. Because we didn't have contents insurance last year, the quotes for B&C are very high. I think the companies are looking at us having had a contents claim, when in fact, we just didn't take the cover. (bad move, don't ask!!!!!).
Is there anything we can do?Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...:D:D
