    Hiya all!

Does anybody know if you can take out contents insurance with one company and building insurance with another. Don't think you can but thought i'd better check.

    Cheers

YES. I have done this for years - today I changed to Norwich Union for buildings and LLoydsTSB for contents. Any online quote you get though please ring direct and speak to someone to check they have all relevant data and to give you choice in level of cover ie. jewellery and the excess you have to pay on any claim. eg. excess for subsidence £1100 !!!!!!! you may not have that kind of cash if you needed to claim.

I found this particularly funny as they are the same company!
churchill, direct line, tesco, privelige, all the same company, calls answered by the same personnel!
They are all part of the Royal Bank of Scotland group or run by them (tesco) on others behalf. Churchill was NatWest until natwest taken over by RBS!!

  • i am just shopping for new quotes for buildings and contents went on moneysupermarket.com and enquied through numerous sites while still on line had call direct from AA who quoted even less than internet price and will save me £89 phoned through to barclays to see if they could match.
Answer no and i also gain legal cover for 4 bed detached accidental damage for buildings and contents, but it could depend on where you live! shop around good luck

i've just started sorting out the mess that is my buildings and contents insurance and the questions on go compare.com blew me out of the water. I have no idea what the rebuild value of my house is so I have to measure it outside (?) tomorrow to try and work it out! my previous insurance never asked anything like this but then that could be why its so pricey so i'll do it. what I do after that i have no idea about. Tips anyone please?
  • I own a house which my daughter lives in. Presumably I need 'landlord insurance' do I?

Hi, Maybe i'm being thick but is the Tesco 50% off offer 50% off the online quote or is the amount of the quote already including the 50% off. For contents insurance they quote me ~£75, so if i take it out before 5th March will I only pay £37.50 (or would their quote have been £150 without the offer)

  • Thank you to Georgeone for bringing up the point about cheapest price is not the best. I would much rather pay more provided I knew that I would be treated fairly in the event of a claim. But how does find out which are the insurance companies which will deal honestly with their policyholders?
All the advice given seems to deal solely with the price.
And does going through a broker help to find an honest one?
  • zebedy, I was wondering the same thing and looked on here for the answer! Quoted nearly £300 for buildings and contents, which is way above what I normally pay but if it is 50% off of this price then it is definitely a bargain. Can anyone answer Zebedy's (and my!) question? Does the price quoted already include the 50% discount or is this taken off once you have agreed to the policy?
  • Hello

In the past I've always taken my building and content insurance from my building society. But now the cost is going through the roof, £399 for a three bedroom end of terrace in leeds. But when i bought the house10 years ago it had had past subsidence, but the survey said it was not progressive. When look at all the screenscrapers they all ask about subsidence and house movement. There has been no movement outside the house in 10 years I've been here, just a few small cracks in the ceiling which i put down to the new central heating I've had installed. Can any one offer any advice?

    Thanks
    Mr P
