Just a quick question. I have never claimed on my house insurance although have paid the premiums for the last ten years. My bolier and heating system is just about to pack up. Could I claim on my house insurance for the new boiler etc. Cheers0

Ive just received my renewal quote from the NPA who I have been with for years and years. I decided this time to ring around and not just renew with them. I had to ring them to ask them about some claims I have made in the past 5 years and about when my next free year would be. She told me my next free year was in 2012. Fine. But then when she started to tell me about the claims there was one there in 2006 which I didnt proceed with. On telling her this she told me my free year would then be moved forward to 2010.
Just thought Id post this as a warning to others. They didnt alter the renewal quote after this but bringing the free year forward two years was worth it.
Still gonna compare prices of other companies though.:rotfl:0 -

No- its not a maintanence policy.0 -
Not all policy coverages are the same.
Not all claims services are the same.
Just to let you know that I opted for Co-operative INsurance in the end. They were not the cheapest but they do give 500 points on your credit card (worth £50 if my memory serves me) if you are a member and they do have a very good claims department with accidental damage and that kind of frill. Well worth looking into. My neighbour recommended them because she had found that so many insurance policies don't actually pay up until you threaten them with legal action!--

Hi, I have home contents insurance. The circuit board, on my central heating boiler, needs replaced and it's going to cost a lot. How can I make a claim on my insurance company? I know how sneaky they can be.
1) A boiler is buildings cover and not contents
2) Unlikely to be covered anyway as its insurance cover you have and not a maintenance contract. Probable cause is wear and tear0 -

Unfortunately not - you have an insurance policy not a maintenance contract!!0 -
A curious tale!
Just received my renaewal quotation from Chuchill for Buildings and Contents cover @ £433. Last year I was a 'new' customer and obtained the cover for £303 (via internet). However last year I switched to Churchill beacuse Direct Line, my previous insurer, quoted me £466 to renew as against £317 when I was a 'new' customer the previous year.
Now guess what - today's cheapest quote from an hours work is Direct Line at £280 as a 'new' customer.
Curious or what?
I found this particularly funny as they are the same company!
churchill, direct line, tesco, privelige, all the same company, calls answered by the same personnel!0 -
Just renewing my buildings and contents cover, followed Martins advice and the best quote was £99 from Post office. They are offering £50 cashback, bringing it down to £49. Then going through Top Cashback site they pay £27.50. Building and contents for the grand total of £21.50! Thanks Martin, you're fantastic

Thanks for all the advice on the forum - Today I have saved - wait for it!!!
£754.76 on my buildings insurance (check your rate if you hold with C&G as you can see it is well worth it, how stupid were we !! )
On my contents insurance I have saved £219.37 (I have cancelled with Norwich Union) That is a total savings of £974.13. Add to that a cashback of £30 the final saving (through LLoyds TSB ) is £1004.13.
I feel a holiday coming on !!:j0
