Hi, has anyone done the Churchill £75 cashback on a betterquote? I have found a identical policy throug prudential for £30 less. I'm not sure if i have to buy the Churchill policy then send e mail of quote from Pru to get £75. There's cashback through quidco in the running too. Sorry if i'm having a bit of a moment but i'm sure one of you can explain it!0

we got our renewal from saga, up from £308 to £380.
went through all the search robots and got it to around the £300 mark. just a note, certain insurers came up as 'unable to get a quote at this time'. i advise going onto their websites and getting a quote.
doing this i got a quote of £275 through kwik fit. possible £21 cashback through mrmoneyback (not heard of them before), can't find anyone else giving cashback for kwikfit.
another note to everyone, double check when you work out your rebuilding cost. i did it once and got figure a, the next day i got a figure £20,000 higher!! make sure you take the right measurements0 -
Don't forget to check out co-op as I had forgotten that they even exist (CiS) as they don't really advertise much. They have excellent extras included as standard (rebuild value is set at £500,000 as standard for example)
My existing Barclays amusing re-quote was £400 a year for buidling and contents for terraced house...shopped around and found £250-300 was benchmark - then confused.com found Admiral (£170) and Co-OP £200 - went direct to site and through quidco of course and got it for £170 plus a further £70 quidco back (excellent tracking too unlike my Barclays quote which never tracked last year) and got Contents + Buildings (accidental on Buildings) for effectively £100.
I did also read on another post that someone has taken out seperate Buildings and then Contents policies with Natwest and got 2 x £120 cashback via quidco so joint policies aren't always best...
Bargain and well chuffed - that's £300 a year I've just saved once agian thanks to collective wisdom of MSE posters - thanks all!
P.S They also can include Caravans (for those of you who like to clog up our motorways) so a previous poster who asked this should check them out.Tesco is my second home:j0 -
I've just gone with the co-op too for B&C - £207 (plus £70 Quidco cashback) inc. all the extras as opposed to my renewal quote from Halifax of £270 & the hilarious quote from LloydsTSB of £980!! They are by far the cheapest & complete that I have found in my massive online search today.0

Hi there,
Got my renewal letter after buying my first house last year.
The quote was £185 for building and contents on a 3 bed semi.
I used Martin's advice and checked out the Moneysupermarket screenscaper. Esure came out cheapest at £143 but when I put this to the test it jumped to £160 on Esure's website. Then tried Tesco who happen to have a 50% offer and I got an excellent quote for £121 (accidental cover not included). Called my current insurer (Direct Line) to cancel and they offered to match this figure because they are backed by the same bank.
Now paying £121 instead of £185 and I think this also includes accidental cover - sorted.
My advice is to use the screenscrapers, check their accuracy yourself, find the cheapest quote and then call your insurer - if they can't match it tell them where to get lost and switch. Saved myself £65 which I will use for a nice meal out instead of lining the pockets of Direct Line's CEOs (who can smell my cheese).
Cheers now0 -
Hi,
I had both buildings and contents with CIS when my neighbour drove his car into my house. The repairs should have taken 6 weeks to complete but actually took over 2 years!!! I was about to put my house on the market when the accident happened and invest the capital (moving in with partner) so CIS have cost me thousands through their ineptitude. They even caused me to be be sued by the last contractor because they didn't pay up on time. They've offered a measly £5k in compo and have cost me nearly 10 times that amount. I personally wouldn't go anywhere near them.
:eek:Don't forget to check out co-op as I had forgotten that they even exist (CiS) as they don't really advertise much. They have excellent extras included as standard (rebuild value is set at £500,000 as standard for example)0 -
Hi deniseduck, if you have had no recent claims one company to consider is Ingdirect. They don't seem to appear on many of the insurance searches.
They dont give any introductory discounts but do give up to 30% discounts on both buildings and contents plus also a 17.5% discount for buying both together. Another benefit is that their cover also includes home emergency cover and legal expenses cover as standard. I realise that the cost also takes into account post code, age, children etc etc. however I managed to get full cover for about £120 for the year. They also do not charge any extra for monthly payments. Good luck with your searches. keith19500 -
A little warning to anyone who is considering taking out insurance with Direct Line.
I moved house at the beginning August and contacted Direct Line to let them know in July. I received my amended policy in August, then further to this they renewed my policy a week ago for the coming year and sent me the policy documents
Yesterday I rang them to say that I wished to cancel my policy and was told that the policy had been cancelled back in July. This means that from July 2007 to date they considered that I was not insured, I am absolutely disgusted, particularly as I have two policies in front of me, one covering me from July to November, the other one being my renewal policy from November 2007 to 2008, saying I was insured.
To add insult to injury, I then requested that they refund my payments since August if I wasn’t insured, the young man on the phone told me I couldn’t as I had a claim in January (the vast sum of £100) and that I wasn’t entitled to any money back.
I'm pleased to say that I have now re-insured with Tesco who seem far more competant that Direct Line ever have been.0 -
Hi, can someone please help as I'm totally puzzled by the quotes I've been given. Have just done a quote with Churchill, great price of only £108 then noticed excess was at a staggering £150! So I altered it to £60 but the quote only went up to £118!, so I altered it again to '0' excess and the quote only went up to £127!! Does the excess really have so little effect, if so are others aware of the potential 'savings' they can make by paying a little extra for zero excess. I've added accidental breakage and it's now gone up to £164 which is still brilliant and way below what I have been paying (and will go via quidco too!). But before I go ahead (and I need to do this before 4th Dec when my other insurance finishes) can someone just confirm I'm not missing something as it does seem very odd. Until I did a quote online I didn't even know you could have zero excess, I always just accepted the details given over the phone!

How ironic that they are operated by the same company!!0
