I have had a policy with Fortis through Age concern (only need to be 50+) for a couple of years but thought their renewal quote of £617 was a bit steep.
Problem is I have my touring caravan valued approx 11k as an additional item on the same policy. They charge me £220 a year for this which is very competitive as all other quotes for the caravan solely are £320 and above.
That leaves £400 for the actual house insurance which I can reduce by £50 plus get Quidco cash back but I cant seem to beat the overall quotation because of the caravan
Any ideas??0 -
Have you tried looking at the caravan club links?0

When i renewed our insurance-I didnt really understand if i needed accidental damage on buildings (as i already have accidental damage on contents)-so i asked the insurer.
Their reply (which they had to go off the line to check for) was "its for diy accidents".
Well as OH never does diy-and is not likely to put his foot through the ceiling,i thought i didnt need it.
Until-a faulty stove-top coffee pot blew a gasket, covering every wall and ceiling in reach with coffee stains (you wouldny believe how far it could go)-this is where i discovered we werent covered for the damage to the walls.
I would say if you can affor to have it to ALWAYS have AD on both buildings and contents - you will generally find this is where the majority of claims will sit under.0 -

We have just taken out new buildings and contents insurance and after much research went with Tesco. With their current offer the cover was 'at least as good' as all the other we were quoted for. Couldn't get cashback from anywhere but it was cheaper than other equivalents and cash back is not guaranteed anyway so went with Tesco.:j Trytryagain FLYLADY - SAYE £700 each month Premium Bonds £713 Mortgage Was £100,000@20/6/08 now zilch 21/4/15:beer: WTL - 52 (I'll do it 4 MUM)0

I have just had a contents renewal quote from Barclays which is exactly the same as last year except last year i had the £125 Quidco cashback. I can see that Natwest are doing £120 cashback but does anyone know if this is for both B&C insurance or just contents insurance ??

Hi, everyone.
I have just received my renewal notice from Direct Line for my combined buildings and contents home insurance.
Last year the total was £348.60 and this year it's £483. I haven't made any claims at all this year (can't remember last time I did actually), and have my car insurance with them also. Haven't added or taken anything away as regards cover, either. Have been with Direct Line for many years, and wonder why this huge rise in premium?
Has anybody else got any idea?
Also, they have started a new thing this time, that if you cancel your policy outside of the end of contract period, they will take a month's premium as a cancellation charge.

I have just rung Northern Rock to tell them that I don't want to renew my home and contents cover with them for a further 12 months as can almost halve my premium elsewhere. I was told they would add £25 to my mortgage as a cancellation fee, or I could pay them a £25 charge by cheque. Can they do this if my policy is up for renewal anyway?
Any advice appreciated0
