  • Hi,

I am planning to switch from my current home and content insurance provider HSBC. I pay by direct debit and my one year contract with them ends on 02 Nov 2007.

I am looking for some advice as to how to proceed.
    1. Search through the comparisons web sites and see what's on offer.
    2. Use Quidco for cashback offers?(using this for the first time).
    3. Request the new insurance start date to be 03 Nov 2007.
    4. Call HSBC to cancel any future payouts and cancel the existing policy.
    5. Does a joint policy make any difference?
Please suggest if I am missing something?

Using Quidco, If I click on the Nationwide link provided and then apply for the policy, will the transaction get recorded and I would be eligible for Cash Back?

    Many Thanks

PS: I am looking at Nationwide through Quidco
  • :o Hi I have a question, well quite a few,

My home insurance is up for renewal on the 22 nd oct and i have recieved a renewal quote which is a mind blowing £120 per month!!! considering i have only been paying £29 per month previously. They say the increase is due to environmental factors!

Well here is my problem, i got home from the work the other day and was my drainage system was blocked!
    So i phoned a plumber, .!
Had to phone the insurance company up, as it turned out i had a cracked pipe in the middle of my garden. Rats had made a hole and blocked it with soil etc.
It is going to be a lot of hassle digging up my newly turfed lawn etc.
I am just worried that because it is so close to my renewal date will my current insurer follow the claim through?
Will i have to stay with them and pay the £120 per month until my claim is resolved?
If i renew with someone else will i have to say i have made a claim?
It has been 4 days sice i last heard anything should i phone them back. The smell of all the sewage on my garden is unbearable.

I am so stressed never made a claim before, any help is very much appreciated.
    Thanks:o

Well having had a great quote from M&S online I then got a leaflet through with my statement saying I could get a £20 voucher and 500 points if I phone for a quote.

The cost over the phone (free call) was £17 more but with the £20 voucher and points I am happy.

12 months interest free also so well done M&S.
It's far better to be penny wise than pound foolish.

  • Barclays have sent me a renewal quote which was £50 more than my quote last year. As MSE advises I contacted them because they promised to beat their first year renewal price.

First they said they couldn't do it, then this offer was only applicable to people who had taken up the same offer last year (?!), then they offered my 10% discount.

I said I wanted to speak to the complaints department and suprise suprise after half an hour of woffling they decided to honour their original promise.

Sorry if this message is not quite in the right format - first posting!:T

We have finally received cashback from Quidco after switching the house buildings & contents insurance from L&G to Direct Line back in June.

    L&G combined buildings & contents renewal premium - £162.30

    Direct Line buildings premium - £ 120.75
    Direct Line contents premium - £ 135.45
    Total = £ 256.20

    Direct Line/Quidco cashback of £ 100 per policy = £ 200

Total cost for buildings & contents insurance for this year = £ 56.20:D

However we can't feel too smug because we were hit by the freak July floods and have had to claim on both policies. Thus our next years renewal premiums are certainly going to be increased & by probably more than the £106.10 we saved & because we've made a claim there's no point shopping around for the next few years either :(.

  • After reading about the reclaiming of misssold PPI's on loans and credit cards, i am wondering if this applies to missold PPI's sold with Mortgages. I was sold a life protection plan and a payment care policy with my mortgage in 2004 these insurances hve recently been cancelled but was paying £25 per for 3 years, could this be claimed back?

How do you work out how much to insure your property for, i own a 3 bed semi , my policy with the pru has just gone upto £525 for Unlimited buildings cover & £40,000 contents, is this too much cover ?
  • :T thanks to this site i've saved over £100!!

My B&C policy has been £150 with norwich union for the past 2 years. this year they sent me a renewal quote of £210! (i have no claims)

Martins screenscrapers found the same level of cover at the co-op for £160, and I got £70 cashback from quidco :T :j :T :j

  • First Time Poster.

I've just renewed my Home and contents policy, via Confused.com. My previous insurer, Norwich Union asked for £215 renewal. However the rebuilding costs were valued as 'up to £500,000. Half a million! My house is valued at £250,000 but surely this is not the rebuilding cost as this valuation includes the value of the land it stands on. By reassessing the rebuilding cost as 60% of the market value of the house, I have obtained a £138 policy through Admiral (with £8000 contents-we have no high vale items).

Is this a good idea or not to assume rebuilding costs to be less that market value???
  • :j Anyone know of an internet site I can go to to get an estimate of the value of my house for insurance purposes. An estate agents estimate includes the land but in the event of an insurance claim The land would still be mine so it would not form part of the claim and I assume therefore should not be included in the buildings value for the insurance quote.
