  • Well there would have been if I wasn't so easy-going....been smiling to myself reading all these, about 12 months ago there was myself and another lady hovering by the reduced section in Asda, just happened to be there at the right time that day!
Can't remember how it happened, maybe we both reached out for the same thing at the same time, but I just remember her booming...."I SAW IT FIRST!":shocked::shocked:
I just looked at her in disbelief, raised my eyebrows and said..."I'm not going to argue with you over a packet of macaroni cheese."
She went very red and very quiet. Fool.

Tbh I the whoops! stuff I pick up is usually for my husband, being a veggie it's not often I get to pick up a quorn bargain and I never seem to get any meat. Tend to buy chicken/mince etc in bulk for kids and husband anyway, can't beat Lidl's weekend deals for stocking up!

So I just don't know what gets into people on these sections, have had what I consider to be some great bargains, few days ago found £1.00 for 12 croissants, 25p Pizza Express salad, 25p butter/herb steam potatoes, about 18 months ago couple of 2p loafs (they were my best ever!) but like a lot of people on here don't actively seek them out, I am just happy to get a bargain!

I remember having a car boot sale. At the time I had a people carrier so basically a van with windows. It was scary getting into my parking space as I had people right up the sides staring into my car - it was like something out of the Walking Dead!

I have to say, our local supermarket never reduces things by that much and the reduced section is not very big either. I'd love to see some of the bargains other people seem to see. :(
your shopping at the wrong time. 80% is knocked off at around 7pm
life is like a loo roll. the nearer the end you get, the faster it goes.

What irritates me about the whoopsie section is the people that barricade themselves in between it and the rest of the shop with their trollies so you can't even wait to get in. People get very carried away by whoopsie shopping I myself happen to love it but have a general rule that if it is something that I don't really need, ever use or wouldn't have even looked at full price then I leave it for someone else.

Well...I saw my first ever example of desperate whoopsie seekers today at Mr T's.

There were 2 or 3 people hounding this poor lad to reduce items down to pennies, one of them must have been a 100 years old and had nothing but reduced stuff in her trolley.

I saw some lunch tongue and went to grab it - I love tongue and mustard butties - and this woman's hand came out of nowhere and tried to snatch it off me.

Apparently her dog loves tongue and she'd been hoping there was some reduced, and would I give it to her and get something else instead?....I've just had a lovely tongue and mustard butty. :rotfl:
Stone walls do not a prison make, nor iron bars a cage.

You left with your dignity. :D

She left with the whoopsie :money:
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.
  • After what happened in Tesco the other day, it reminded me of something that someone put on here. I went to the reduced bread bit, and there was some warburtons square wraps reduced. I had a look and it was reduced by pence, so I said to my auntie 'not worth it for a few pence' as the date was today (this happened yesterday). Out of nowhere, the SA came over (elderly man :) ) and said 'well how much do you want it for?' so I didn't want to put a price, and said what could he do. And he scanned it and said 60p? And I said, jokingly!, 50p? ;) and he said done! So I took all 5 packs of them to freeze.

You know what he said to me? He'd rather I took them and use them at 50p a packet, than them sit there unsold at the end of the day. He said he hates seeing stuff go to waste, and that if hes reducing at the end of the day, you'd get stuff for pennies.

I don't think I was being cheeky, just having a laugh, but ended up with a bargin anyway :)

I recently had an interesting experience. I always check the reductions usually before I buy or look for anything else but I know what times I can get good deals. I was in store a couple of months ago and looked at the meat section reductions and there were a few things for that date. It was about 7pm and the store was really quiet. The lad reduced them for me. As I was walking away I took a quick look at the fresh simply cook meals. I noticed that at least 15 of them were for that day's date. So I asked if they should be reduced. He said yes and started doing them for me. Meanwhile another lady cam over and aked if she could have any so I said of course she could, I wouldn't dream of keeping them all. So she took what she wanted and i had the rest as there was noone else around. The lad said he was pleased I had spotted them as they would have ended up in a skip. Everyone happy. Result. and nearly 90% off in true moneysaving style!
    3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

    I've been Money Tipped!
Love reading most of this, not any problems in my "usual" stores, but have seen a few issues in other stores.
In my stores it's simply down to timing and the stores having too much stock. Happens quite a bit, though sometimes getting meat can be a struggle now..................I was spoilt in the past though and the little b*****s are starting to reduce earlier now and getting higher prices when reducing. Their stock control seems to have improved also............they are getting too clever. lol

  • This thread IS funny but peoples behaviour is also INCREDIBLE ( and not in a good way! lol )

I do my shopping online thankfully , wouldn't ever want to get involved in a scrum situation and if the reduced section was packed I'd just avoid it to be honest!!!

Theres more to life than getting into a fight over a piece of meat .... I grew up in a family on an extremely low budget , my parents didn't 'scrum' for any food , we shopped local and the shopping took ages as my Mum would stop for a chat with all the grocery store owners , but it was NICE ... manners and a sense of friendly community was there and I have never found it ever since but yearn to move to a wee village somewhere with friendly grocers , butchers and greengrocers etc as this supermarket aggression is pretty shameful actually and NICKING OUT OF OTHER PEOPLES TROLLIES , I'm GLAD I wouldn't have the guts and would rather always leave a store with my dignity intact and they can stick the whoopsies if it means stooping so low!!!!!
