Last year (2011) ... I failed dismally! I managed (somehow miraculously) to reduce the debt mountain by about £4k, which is fairly insignificant in the big scheme!

So, here's the new shiny thread for 2012!
My hope for this MSE year will be that it is full of fun, laughter and glitches ... I think I'm going to need them!
Do you really have £92K of debt? You owe your Gran £1000 and you are paying silly money to Sky!
I not being judgemental, just honest with my views.
merlot1230 -
Morning and A Happy New Year!
Hooray - I've managed 12 and a half hours of the year so far and haven't spent a penny (well, figuratively I guess I have - but not literally!) .... having said that, I've slept for at least 7 of those hours! I wonder if that counts.
I must - must - must update finances today, can't believe I haven't done it already!
Was at a party last night and was trying to remember what goals I'd set myself this year, and realised they were majorly wishy washy, so think I need to set some time aside to do that. Mine need to be quite specific, otherwise I don't keep them!
The first one I think has to be to cut down on Sky TV - judging by feedback so far (and I do love honest comments) there has to be something done about that.
Am off for a walk soon, and then taking dinner to my Gran's - and we'll all eat together there.
Thanks so much for the early followings - one of my very very favourite quotes from Harry Potter, and one that is eminently suitable for use in my life is "hang on, it's going to be a bumpy ride"
CBB0 -
Oooh, PS .... some of the answers to queries:
Buildings and contents insurance - 4 bed det, so not huge, but the lead lining blew off the conservatory 3 years (ish) ago and we had to make a claim.
Phone insurance is for DD2's phone - she's always losing / breaking it
Sky - 4 different boxes in house - mad isn't it
Homecare - british gas - have major problems with the boiler!
The money owed to Mum and Gran was to do with a house I bought for them and the agreement was for it to be repayed when house was sold (up for sale at present), I included it above to make sure it wasn't ever forgotten about. It's a complicated story!0 -
Oh help! Just done the monthly calculations and it's looking very dire! I always struggle like mad through January!
Have allocated £200 for food and £200 for petrol, but can maybe 'squidge' that down a bit as have heaps of stuff in the cupboards that could keep us going (unfortunately all high calorie!!!)
Just as well I like challenges :-D0 -
Wow - you are so seriously organised.
I love using up the 'stuff' in the cupboard but it never seems to work out very well for the waistline does it?Est. debt free day April 2016 (ish) Debt at June 2010 £34,247.13Debt at Dec 2011 £27,499.09 (19.7% paid off)Working together with DH on our debts (twindad07)Long haulers supporters DFW #2560 -
Hi twinmum,
The 'stuff' in the cupboard challenge is super easy if you go onto the old style boards! The posters on those threads can help you make a 5* meal for four for about a pound (using cupboard stuff) if necessary!
Thank you for joining the thread.
Dinner at my Grans was brilliant. We were joined by one of her neighbours and a merry time was had by us all. We took the food, and there was actually enough left to feed us tomorrow as well (my Gran didn't want the lefties!)
We're all queueing for the shower now, then into jim jams, followed by Xmas puzzle and then watch Xmas prezzie movies. Whilst I'm waiting my turn am going to look for a new shiny avatar to help me on my way!!0 -
A whole day without spending anything, unless you count paying £50 extra to one of the Credit Cards (only because I was scared it was going to bounce)! I'm going to try for another NSD tomorrow - ooh, maybe that could be a challenge - no spending days - I did that a couple of years ago and was reasonably effective at it!
Have just finally updated all the debt tracker balances, as up to date as possible. Am £4k less in debt than I thought - every penny counts, so I suppose this is positive rather than negative (shame it's not £40k less!!!).0
