I know its a really horrible feeling to be verbally abused as it happened to me once. However, along with all the nasty abuse there was some good advice and I realised deep down that what most people were saying was right. I dont always listen to advice but at the end of the day I think that most people are just trying to help by being cruel to be kind. They are warning you that you are over commiting yourself in view of the debt that you have. The people that warned me not to do what I was planning were right. However, we went ahead and did it and now we havent got 2 pennies to rub together so to speak and we feel trapped. We will get out of it and pay our debts but we have no quality of life because every penny of our money is accounted for. So have a good long think about what you are getting yourself into and if you are prepared to take the consequences. I know how you feel though and you will probably ignore all this advice and do what you want to do. Thats what we did and I only half regret it.

    Hello Beetlebug

Just thinking twice about this I thought that maybe telling you the basics of my story might help you to make a decision as we were in a similar position to you.

We were living in a house, already had a mortgage but the area was being terrorised by yobs and vandals (serious arson attack a few doors along from us). We decided to buy an old house in a good area but were also paying for my daughter through uni, paying my son's private school fees, heavily in debt (though not as much as you), earning more than you although buying the house would not have reduced our debt. Came on here and was insulted and slated in much the same way as you and told to pay off our debts first (would have taken a year according to people on here). That was approximately a year ago and we ignored the advice and bought the house and took our debts with us.

Well on the negative side I would say that buying this house cost far more than we anticipated what with fees and moving and everything else. We still have the same debt a year later and although we pay the mortgage each month, and a regular debt payment as well as trying to renovate the house, there isnt ever a penny to spare. I have to be extremely careful all of the time and budget for everything. We never go out and dont buy things like clothes or drink alcohol or anything like that. That is the way we have to live. Our mortgage is lower than yours would be although we have it over a shorter term, 10 years.

On the plus side I would say that had we stayed in the old house and paid off the debt, we would not necessarily be debtfree now and this house would be out of our reach because since we moved here we have had it re-valued and the price has risen by £25,000 which is £8,000 more than our debt. Obviously we cannot get at this money so I'm not saying this is advisable.

I dont really regret moving here but I do have a lot of sleepless nights worrying about money and I suffer from stress because of it. Its not just the debt, its finding the money to do up the house, both of those things cause me equal amounts of stress. So really I think you have to ask yourself if you are prepared to live like this because I can guarantee that you will be short of money and scrimping and scraping every penny you earn. Really the decision is entirely yours to make but I just thought I would let you know how it is for us.

Why does such a foul-mouthed oaf refer to himself as a scouser then?

Again another one making assumptions without knowing the facts. :wall:

SS is not a foul mouthed oaf. He comes on this board just about every day to give advice to people in debt. Its a bit pathetic and spiteful to run to the Moderators telling tales in the hope that he will be thrown off. If that happens then this board will lose one of its main contributors. I must say Ive never known him to use bad language before and Im sure it was only used because he felt exasperated. He has the best of intentions.

Yes master Yoda. I too feel the force.

Why not enlighten us with the facts then, I mean with 14000 posts its hardly like you're the secretive introverted type. Unless theres another use of the word scouser it hardly seems a big assumption....

I am foul mouthed but I do think oaf is a bit unfair! :rotfl:

I've probably said it a hundred times to be fair so you aren't the only one to think that! I'll cut you some slack this time! The force is strong in you young one! :)
