This is exactly why I was harsh before. You have no respect whatsoever. I think you borrowed that money in good faith. No one twisted your arm, you just wanted what you wanted and the money was there so you took it. You sound like you actually resent them for wanting you to repay the money you borrowed.

If you're as young as I suspect you are (early - mid 20s), your attitude represents exactly what is wrong with today's celebrity-worshipping, binge-drinking, spend-spend-spend-for-tomorrow-we-die society and is morally reprehensible. As long as you get what you want and what your equally morally bankrupt peers say you should have then that's all that matters . . . F*** the lenders.

If you do get this mortgage, I positively GUARANTEE that you will be repossessed within 3 years.

I'm in my early 20s, and I thoroughly resent being called celebrity-worshipping, binge-drinking, etc etc. You call our generation morally bankrupt, you're the one flaming someone for having a dream!

Anyway, hello everyone :hello: I've been lurking on here for a couple of months and thought I'd finally better post!

Who are you and why are you following Beetlebug round this site - dont you have anything better to do with your time, you have had your say and I think you should go and find someone else to pick on!!

Nonsense. My penultimate post was intended to soften things a bit. I admitted I might have been harsh but then the OP said they wouldn't pay back the £29K and would try and weasel out of paying their ALREADY reduced amount.

Why can't you people see that this isn't bullying that that the sooner people with this kind of mentality are shown that it's bang out of order, the sooner their attitudes to debt and life in general will change for the better.

It might seem "funny" to some to "knock" a credit/store card or loan company because they seem to be faceless corporations just out to stick it to the working guy but everyone conveniently forgets that no one forces you to sign on the dotted line.

I'm not stamping anyone's dream. The OP has obviously had a lot of dreams given the size of their unsecured debt.

I think that you would generally call the OP's previous post - Humour.

I just wondered why it concerns you so greatly? Does Beetlebug owe you some money?!

Seriously, I see where you are coming from and there are a lot of irresponsible people in the world (myself included) but I just think that enough has been said and BB has obviously left the original post now and doesnt deserve to be hounded anymore!

I've had a look through both Beetlebug's threads here and while I think tenroom seems to be on a bit of a rant here and could be more tactful, I find myself agreeing with him.

I have every sympathy for you Beetlebug, I'm only a couple of years older than you and could really do with clearing my debt too, however I can't imagine how I could have possibly racked up £30k worth of debt by your age (or even now at 26). It's easy to try and consolidate debt and admirable to aspire to owning a home however tenroom has a point about consumer culture and financial responsiblity. I'm guilty of it too (I just tried to get another credit card to try and clear my Egg balance in order to claim back charges), but I would never dream of applying for a mortgage given my financial situation (I owe around £4500), never mind yours.

I wish you luck but please take on board the advice you've been given.

    Hi shopaholictiedtheknot, and hi everyone!

Beetlebug, if 1983 represents your year of birth, we are the same age; we have time to get on the housing ladder don't you worry. I think its great you're planning for it now, and obviously asking your original question has made things clearer for you, so why anyone thought it was stupid I don't know. Now you've had answers from people with personal and professional experience you're in a great situation to get going with paying off your debt and saving for a deposit. Good for you I say!
  • Interesting. Clearly this forum is supposed to be about non-judgemental advice and is successful at helping people in a multitude of situations. I am naturally at the very judgemental end of the spectrum, but rein it in when I am in here.

I am actually taken aback by how positive non-judgemental advice can be.

So I hope you don't take what I say next too personally GreyPilgrim, but your avatar sucks! :) only joking... I must get round to doing one.

Beetlebug1983 - All I can say is knuckle down, keep your nose clean, pay your debt off. You're young enough to make plenty of big changes in your life. Explore the world (when you can afford to). Home ownership is not the be-all and end-all.

Part of the anger directed at you is not personal. Housing booms and busts take on a common pattern. Those of us who remember the last one, also remember the build up: Where 'house prices would never fall', borrowings go over the 3.5xsalary to 4 or 5 times (I can't believe I saw 7 times!). These are very bad omens indeed. A lot of people lost a lot of money. I remember having to leave the student house I lived in because the landlord had lost everything. Even the house he had bought for his parents. Everything.

You represent a facet of this looming problem. This is harsh because you didn't ask for this, you just wanted some advice about your personal situation , not what it represents in general.

I don't know how you got into debt of 29K, but maybe we can help there first?

I agree with what you said on the other thread, but DFW is supposed to be a 'safe haven' where people feel free to disclose their situation without judement.
