Jesus this is so pathetic! I really hate using that word; it's so derogatory but it's the most fitting one! This is keyboard warrior-ism at its worst and you're all typing madly at each other for no reason than ego, it seems. (Ali above seems to have jumped in before me so excepting Ali in that last comment!)
I will of course now be flamed for commenting on the 'argument', but thought I must step in as nothing's being acheived and it goes well against the ethos of these forums!0 -

The vast majority of those 14500 posts have been helping and supporting people here in DFW. Perhaps if you weren't so quick to judge you might actually be able to do the same...? Assuming that is why you are here that is?
This is True!! No room for judging on this thread. I definetly dont want that persons advice!! Excuse my spelling on the last post!!! Grrrrrr, Not checking my typing!!!0 -

WELL DONE!!!!!!
Please don't be upset by all the fighting, the subject of increasing debt is very, very emotive as you have seen. To add my tuppence worth to whether you should get a mortgage...... Picture this scenario......
You buy the house. It's a struggle, but you're managing...... Then you discover a damp patch on the ceiling. You investigate - it's coming from a leak at the chimney. REPAIR COST £625.
Next month the cooker blows up. Manage to buy a second hand one. COST £125.
Next month boiler blows up. When gas man comes out to give quote he also condemns your fire so you can't use it. NEW BOILER £950.
Next month car fails MOT, no option but to repair as OH needs fro work, no public transport. REPAIR COSTS £400.
This sounds unlikely, but actually happened to a friend of mine. No option but to bung all on credit cards, except struggled to meet minimum payments. Missed a few, a few more late, robbed Peter to pay Paul, deaults issued etc. Then car written off when hit by joy rider, only covered 3rd party, had to buy another, could only get finance at 29.9%.
They got lucky - OH got unexpected bonus at work when owner retired and sold business, this cleared all their loans and ccards. In the meantime however they both were ill with the stress of it all, and OH now has IBS. They have both become paranoid about money, and make themselves ill trying to save to cover every worst case scenario they can think of.
Forget the house BB. Concentrate on clearing debts 1st. Have you posted your SOA? We'll help you as much as we can, but please don't cripple yourself with a mortgage.
Let's be constructive out there everyone
.
I realise this, but where we live everyone nows everyone so we always get mate rates with things. I/e - My car failed it's mot this month needing extensive repairs. If i didn't know a local mechaninc (through work and an old friend of my dad) it would have been v.costly. He priced is at £350 (Inc labour), which for the work that was done was very good!!! (2 new tyres, 2 fron brakes, repair electric window, leaks, new exhaust, new door lock, cambering, tracking and loads more!!). I dont live in a city where everything costs so much. My mothers new man is a builder, my OH works in the construction industry, so it's quite handy. I work in insurance, so i get good discounts!!0 -
Plus in the village where i live, we dont have gas mains!0

No one should be judged for asking advice. Listen to all the good advice and forget the abuse. If you look at my sig you'll see why I wish I had good advice a few years ago.
Pay off your debts and save for your deposit. Then you will be in a possition to get a good rate on your mortgage. You wont just have to take whatever mortgage you'll be accepted for as you would now.

Proud to be have dealt with my debt

Thank you for your advice. How were the cccs with accpeting £20 for your dmp a month.0

Can I just sincerely say sorry to the OP and everyone else for my language in this thread.

I'm not sorry for standing up to bullies but the way I went about it was wrong. Thats what the abuse button is for.
Rest assured I'll leave this thread alone now.

Now ali007 has given perfectly sound, reasonable and prudent advice. All gently delivered - I'd even go as far as to use the phrase "spoon-feeding". The OP comes up with all the reasons why she should still buy despite the overwhelming consensus that she shouldn't quintuple her debt.
I'm gonna lay off the OP cos she's gonna do what she wants to anyway and, I suspect, only wants someone to say "go ON, go for it, you'll be alright. Go for yer dream" because in her mind, her actions will have been condoned so that when it all goes Pete Tong, she'll be able to blame it on someone else, ANYONE else but her own irresponsible self.
She's effectively wasted everyone's time by asking the question and not listening to the excellent advice she's received.
BB . . . go ahead ! You go, girl ! If you want it, take it and don't let anyone step on yer dreams :rolleyes:0 -
No, tenroom, thats not what my intentions are. I merley stated the fact that i dont live in a city where things are more expensive for you. I dont want your advice, and i have taken note of EVERYONES comments and have put them into my think tank. Some post have been very helpfull in guiding me to the right direction. I would like to thank them all. I dont blame anyone else for my problems, its my choices that have got me into this mess, and it's only ME that's going to get myself out of it. as for blaming otehr people, you dont even know me, so please stop judging people.0

Lets put this one to bed now.
