You can peel, grate and freeze in portions. That can then be added to casseroles and pasta sauce :)

Will it flavour anything i hide it in?

It doesn't have a pronounced flavour - what did your children object to about the soup?

Squash of whatever type take on the flavour of whatever spices and herbs you put in.

They said it tasted disgusting and was runny - it was pretty thin and sort of tasteless with a slight aftertaste lol. Im not a great cook but had added potato/ salt/ onion/water and dried mixed herbs.

Erm; most soups need to be started with onions cooked slowly in some oil, then you add the rest once the onions are bursting with flavour. And you definitely need stock.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

Vegtable stock can i just put vegtable stock cubes melted in water or do i have to boil loads of different veggies in the same water? Sorry for being a bit thick here.

  • How did you actually make your soup?

Yes, you can use stock cubes, but that's no substitute for the onions cooked properly.

You could use stock cubes. My butternut soup I start with onions, in butter and a tespoon of oilive oil, then add the cubed butternut and JUST enough stock to cover, or water and stock cubes, veg or chicken. At the end I blitz in in the blender, but its already broken down to a very thick soup. If we're feeling fancy I put a little cream in, or yogurt.

Butternut goes great with pasta. Filled paste which are most common with squash are too much fuss for me very often, but I cube and roast it, perhaps with some wedges of onion, soe chestnuts, maybe some streaky bacon, cook till the butternut is tender, the bacon crispy and toss through pasta, perhaps with a little rumbled blue cheese.
