I have heard of people growing them in pots, they are a climbing plant so you could get them to climb up your wall perhaps?

they do have tons of roots so I think it would have t be a very big pot!

You can grow lettuces, baby beetroot, cherry tomatoes and radishes in a window box.

Found a great book for you Greenlogo The window box allotment,

There are some ideas in the review so you could get the inspiration from there without having to buy the book ;)

There are a few ideas for containers HERE
On here it suggests making a wigwam with canes to trail things up.

My favorite idea, I hadn't thought of for my mini container garden is strawberries Hmmmm :j
When life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt ;)

I wonder if they'd grow ok (one or two anyway :D ) in a large window box at a sunny(ish... I'm in scotland after all :D ) window in my new flat. I've a HUGE windowsill in the kitchen and it'd be nice to grow more than just herbs and I love butternut squash - are there any gardeners who could make an educated guess?

Sounds like a good place to grow tomato plants greenlogo?
 In my new basket: A slightly whiffy blanket; Racy’s 2nd favorite jumper; remains of a slipper; 2 sticks (1 chewed); bouncy ball collection (4); Racy’s iPod :shhh: and a large sock (found under Racy's bed)

Lots of fab ideas - thanks :D . I'll try one great big pot and see how that goes, and I think lettuce and cherry toms may get a try too :) .

I'll need to check if my library has a copy of the book I can request (if not I'll speak to the purchasing librarian and see if I can persuade her :D )

  • I love it, too, and sometimes I just steam it. When it's all nice and tender it makes a perfect side-vegetable. Yumyum

You can bake them split into halves, filled with cheese (edam/gruyere/mozzarella) and sprinkled with paprika and ground pepper. A little drizzle of posh nutty oil (sesame works well) is useful for pre-roasting. Or curry the flesh and with cauliflower and courgette and serve in the half. Portion control! :o

I have a lovely recipie somewhere that I'll need to dig out that uses roasted butternut squash halves as "bowls" and fills with black rice, apricots and chicken all flavoured with cinnamon and cumin

It looks very "jewelled" and tastes nummy.

If anyone wants it give me a shout (you'd need to grow your own squash for it to me money saving though..)
