    Hi

I'm sorting out my cupboards to try and do a proper stock check. I keep finding things that are well & I mean years out of date.

Would anyone use out of date tins. Rice pudding 2008 Custard 2009
Custard powder 2009, tinned peaches 2008.!!!

& I thought I checked my cupboards. I think I put the new stuff at the front

Help could be another high count on the throw aways............

    Jarus xx

They will be fine, I made custard this week with 2009 custard powder to go on top of the last of the carrot cake and fruit cake for dessert, we're still alive and kicking, I never look at sell by dates anymore, just use my nose and eyes and if still not sure, a little taste will tell you.

  • That's great thank you so much!! I did try finding stuff online but couldn't find anything I liked. I've decided I'll do the Jamie recipe when I have some friends round in a couple of weeks. I have a beef joint which I'll be using then, and I'll do the aubergine & olive stew on the side, and use up the mini crumbles from the freezer.

We've called this The Big Eat - our determination to eat as much from the freezer as possible before we move house. Hopefully it will mean we only need to do one proper grocery shop before we move!

Just reporting back to say thanks to Jarus. My banana bread was AWESOME!!

Tonight I think we will be having left over 'weird casserole' as it has now been christened!
  • My first small waste to report for Feb on some very sorry looking letuce leaves that had gone very brown looking not at all appatising. But on the good side it was only about 1/8 of the bag which was reduced in the first place down to 40p

so 5p wastage to report :o

My HM tea loaf was also starting to go stale but revived this afternoon as a snack by toasting and spreading with a smidge of marge which will also need to get used up soon but thats not very waistline friendly maybe i should do some savory scones with the milk thats bound to start getting to the turn in the next couple of days !

had to throw away a forgotten cucumber :-( they're 39p in lidl today but i'm sorry to say this one was bought when they weren't on offer (but can't remember how much). Have just discovered I can freeze pesto, thanks for whoever posted that on whatever board. i often have to throw half the jar away. re bananas glad the banana bread was scrummy. when i have a banana going a little soft for my liking i mash it on toast for breakfast. some people also add cinnamon

We slice green olives into stew. If they're very salty you could soak them first.

  • Any suggestions for what to do with some garlic roule (soft cheese thing)? Somehow ended up in my fridge, no idea why as I don't like soft cheese! I know I could add it to pasta but I prefer a tomatoey pasta sauce to a cheesy one.

    Needs to be vegetarian please.

    Cheers x
