It should help to show that I actually chose the least suggestive of the gardening tasks to post about.
Maybe double decker side plates would be the solution to the problem of a lack of space for food on them?
I keep looking at them but can't justify the cost unless I get it from the likes of argos using gift vouchers and I never have those with me when I'm thinking about it, the one I have now is one of the cheap plastic things and I seem to spend as much time cleaning it as I do dishes so the sooner the plate rack breaks enough to make it unusable I'll enjoy getting rid of it.
Thinking about it there is alot of stuff in the house that I'm starting to think about replacing that I bought with the ex when we first moved in to the flat last year, funnily enough all the things I bought weren't the cheapest options and are still not breaking or falling apart while the stuff he got mostly is. But until I decide if I'm going to stay or go there's no point replacing stuff unless its knackered. It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

Dig that hole...scubaangel wrote: »I keep looking at them but can't justify the cost unless I get it from the likes of argos using gift vouchers and I never have those with me when I'm thinking about it,
No, no, no. Don't think about the upfront cost, think about "cost per year".scubaangel wrote: »the one I have now is one of the cheap plastic things and I seem to spend as much time cleaning it as I do dishes so the sooner the plate rack breaks enough to make it unusable I'll enjoy getting rid of it.
So take the purchase price of that plastic one, and divide it by how long it lasted. Now look at the stainless steel ones. They should last you until you're weighing down a pine box. I bet that works out much cheaper.scubaangel wrote: »Thinking about it there is alot of stuff in the house that I'm starting to think about replacing that I bought with the ex when we first moved in to the flat last year, funnily enough all the things I bought weren't the cheapest options and are still not breaking or falling apart while the stuff he got mostly is. No there isn't but one of the best quotes about quality I heard was "we're too poor to buy cheap.""Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

And its all very well saying cost per use but when I don't have the spare cash I need to wait til I remember I want to replace it and have the vouchers with me, although I think I'm more likely to go look at them in a 'proper' shop rather than argos before I buy, chances are for not much more money it'll be better quality.
Which is why I'm going to persevere with the stuff thats knackering until it's gone completely and replace things as I need them and can afford to (or not bother and move back in with my Dad so I can pinch his stuff when I move out again).
I think one of the next things I need to get is a shredder I seem to be generating alot of paper work at the moment with changing all the accounts in to my name and sorting through piles of other stuff which has been cluttering the place up.
Just stubbed my toe on the box of DVD's the ex left behind which has reminded me I need to either musicmagie them or try listing them on amazon/play/ebay. Reckon if I do that first I can magpie them when I come to move out of the house. They've been sat here for three months now and he's making no effort to come and get them despite still having a key to the house and having been asked several times so its time to get shot of them. It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

Absolutely. I'm not saying replace it now. You have it - so it's effectively free. What I'm saying is don't replace it with cheap crap which will need replaceing with cheap crap again quite soon.scubaangel wrote: »and can afford to (or not bother and move back in with my Dad so I can pinch his stuff when I move out again).
I hope he buys quality...scubaangel wrote: »I think one of the next things I need to get is a shredder I seem to be generating alot of paper work at the moment with changing all the accounts in to my name and sorting through piles of other stuff which has been cluttering the place up.
I need one of those too. Except I burnt mine out. It has been the third one I've had and they've all died... :whistle:scubaangel wrote: »Just stubbed my toe on the box of DVD's the ex left behind which has reminded me I need to either musicmagie them or try listing them on amazon/play/ebay. My Dad has this idea that if he spends lots of money on things they'll do miracles, like the old Dyson I liberated last time I went home, according to him it wasn't very good - but these things work so much better when you plug them in and turn them on and in a house with a dalmation things need defurring often or even the best vaccum cleaner is going to struggle.
I think the last shredder I had burned out too - funny enough it was a cheap one the ex bought from a supermarket, am actually considering taking some of the paper work to work with me and running it through our industrial shredder there saves me having to buy one for a little while longer.
Yup at first he said he was going to come for them and the books he left but obviously he's not bothering, I don't mind keeping the books for now, as I'm pretty sure some of the Terry Pratchetts are ones I don't have in my collection at home, the others I'll get around to reading at some point and then most likely charity shop as books don't seem to be selling on greenmet and amazon at the moment and I have more than enough already listed and in boxes under my bedIt’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

Do they? Bum... that's where I've been going wrong...scubaangel wrote: »and in a house with a dalmation things need defurring often or even the best vaccum cleaner is going to struggle.
No...think laterally...scubaangel wrote: »I think the last shredder I had burned out too - funny enough it was a cheap one the ex bought from a supermarket, am actually considering taking some of the paper work to work with me and running it through our industrial shredder there saves me having to buy one for a little while longer.
I bought two high-end home ones, then a low-end office one. I suppose it doesn't help that I shred *everything*.
If the next one doesn't last too long, then it's going to be "brazier" I fear...scubaangel wrote: »Yup at first he said he was going to come for them and the books he left but obviously he's not bothering, I don't mind keeping the books for now, as I'm pretty sure some of the Terry Pratchetts are ones I don't have in my collection at home, the others I'll get around to reading at some point and then most likely charity shop as books don't seem to be selling on greenmet and amazon at the moment and I have more than enough already listed and in boxes under my bed

Yeah I can see the geriatric dotty dog loving that....
At Dad's we tend to use his chimnea to burn paper work much easier and theres something so satisfying about burning stuff isnt there.
More noticable recently I think, I used to be posting one a week on average but haven't sold any since about June now, that said it could just be that they're all really really terrible books, I think come the time I move out of here they'll be headed for the charity shop too so I'm not lugging them to wherever I end up next. It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

Oh yes, before this house, I had one with a wood-burning stove. Used to sit the parents in front of it for them to watch it. Rather more entertaining than television...scubaangel wrote: »More noticable recently I think, I used to be posting one a week on average but haven't sold any since about June now, that said it could just be that they're all really really terrible books,
Possibly, but I did hear that it was the unpopular books that sold the best because there was less competition in terms of sellers.
Though that does depend on just how bad your books are...scubaangel wrote: »I think come the time I move out of here they'll be headed for the charity shop too so I'm not lugging them to wherever I end up next.
Yes, whatever the reasons for not selling, you want them gone.

Most things are more entertaining that TV these days, so many channels so little worth watching.
They're mass market paperbacks so nothing special, hence they just sit there, someone suggested I try using facebook selling pages but I've not got around to looking in to those yet and tbh unless I can get someone to just come and take the lot I'm not sure the effort is going to be worth it.It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.
