:Tmany thanks:T for running this again, can you put me down for £200 for the month, haven't managed to stick to it yet but just trying to stick to a budget helps keep my spending down!

always interested in seeing what people do and don't include in their budget, mine includes all food (human and cat) toiletries, cleaning products, my lunches out, but not oh's as works shifts so not always practicable, BUT i don't include alcohol as i figure if we have managed to stop ourselves trooping to the pub then i am not going to penalise myself for it!!

well off to the shops, veg from the market and a new cash book rom wh smiths!

    thanks again

  • Morning everyone:j
Can I join in again too please...I've not been part of this for ages, though I do still keep a grocery account with a fixed amount going in each month. I need to be a lot more careful though and try to lower what we spend.

So, can I go for £250 for January please - that's for myself and 2 dds of 14 and 12. I include packed lunches, cleaning products and toiletries (though we'll not need much for the year going by what we got for Xmas! Just toothpaste for a while). It probably should be a lower amount so will try keep it down. We have plenty of nibbles of course after Christmas...my Mum is fab for buying stuff then giving it to me:T
I really need to sort out a new signature!

hi there, can i join you, ive never done a GC before but i think i need to, to make me more mindful of those little trips to asda that add up.
i have a freezer choc-a-block full with meat and other stuff so i am going to set this Jan's budget to £150
this is for me, ds 9, dd 7 and OH dinner a few nights a week.
i am going to really try to eat more veggies in the new year so i guess much of the budget will be for that.
i am starting this from NOW!

  • Can I please be put down for £400 for January please :) I am hoping that we'll stay on budget then I plan to lower it by £20 a month thereafter. We have just over a year to get everything paid off and our spending right down as dh is changing jobs and our income will be significantly lower than it is now.

I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas :)

  • Hi all

Please can i join? I was a member a couple of years ago, but fell off the wagon. Desperately need to get back on it now though.

Can i set a budget of £150 for Jan please. This will include everything that i would buy at the supermarket, food, toiletries, cleaning bits and bobs and pet food/ bedding.

Hopefully January shouldn't be too expensive as have a freezer full and pretty full cupboards - Xmas leftovers. Will also start eating at work again - free meals. And will defintely start meal planning.

Can you tell it's a new year....

    Hello Regulars and Newbies:wave:

Thanks Helen Jelly for transferring my Jan budget from the Dec thread.

I have spent a fair bit since my challenge started on the 19th December and foolishly didn't include anything extra in my budget for the Christmas food and drink so it is likely I will go over but I am determined to keep a tight hold on my spends so I am leaving it at £500. My total is on my computer at work and I am off so will update sig later. I have also stocked up on 6 months worth of vits and 6 months worth of razors for DH this month.

DH and I have agreed that we need to eat much more healthily, like we did before I went back to work after maternity leave in March last year asI struggle to find the time now. Having been ill for the last 2 months and currently stuck in bed with a chest infection I am all for getting back to where we were. DH also needs to lose a couple of stone. My plans for 2012 are:
    • Start ordering an organic veg box fortnightly with a view to getting it weekly like we used to do and use everything in it
    • DH will sort out DS bedtime routine and spend time with him so I can cook us a decent meal from scratch and eat it at the table
    • No takeaways - I don't enjoy them, it's just laziness and getting swayed by DH
    • Batch cook when I make a meal to save time on other days
    • Meal plan and stick to it
    • Eat less processed food and more veggie meals for DH
    • Shop at Aldi, with a couple of branded things like Quorn from elsewhere
    • Stick to £100/month for everything including alcohol with a view to reducing this to £80 within 6 months
My challenge ends on the 19th January, although I am gonna try and extend it to the 22nd and I do not need to buy anything until the weekend and have enough wine from Christmas to float a battleship!
    Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%
    Pay off £7000 - £1743 - 19.4%
    Make £2021 extra income - £99.75
