  • As we really overspend our budget I'd like to join the Grocery Thread for February and set a realistic budget of £100 A WEEK

Today is the end of my January challenge - I managed 22 NSD out of 20 aimed for.

Wow! well done you - and there's me feeling pleased with with 7 so far this month - still, onwards and upwards!

Not ready to declare final Jan spend - expect I'll need some bread tomorrow, but the figures are looking promising. Confidently reducing Feb budget to £400 - it's a shorter month and I'm slightly better at this than I thought I would be. :j

I have been away for a couple of days, so THANKS to all posters posts that I have not managed to catch up on yet.

I am still within budget and it was a NSD today. Came home and cleared out a few of those odd bits that I had tended to overlook in the freezer, for supper.

Think I will post my total for January on Tuesday, so I have a clean slate on 1st Feb.

Keep up the good work GCs!

  • Hello all, I'm not declaring for this month as it has not been at all typical. As some of you may know, my DH Bill died of bronchopneumonia on 7th January. Our fantastic family and I are beginning to get back to normal a bit now, but as you can imagine, spending has been all over the place.

So I'll be back on track for February.

Well done everyone else on January efforts.

As a newbie to Ald! just today, I would recommend it. I still had to go to Mr T though. I think I'll uses it every 2nd big shop. Fabric softener only 89p for 2lt, loaf of nice white bread 47p, and I was really impressed with their selection of fruit & veg. Nice big bags of potatoes for 69p in the super 6 this week too.

I'd say give it a go and see how you like it.

(remember your £1 coin for the trolley, rookie mistake!)

The big bonus about Ald* for me is that there are no promotions to entice you to overspend e.g if you want a jar of pasta sauce, you can buy a perfectly nice one at a cheap price. If i go into a bigger supermarket wanting pasta sauce i quite often find you have to buy 3 for 2 or something to get the sauce at a decent price. Also Ald* either do bog standard or luxury pasta sauce, a choice of two products. In the other supermarkets you are faced with a whole aisle to choose / price compare. All in all amounts to a quicker / cheaper shop for me. Great with small children!
