I think I'm gonna join this year... well, join again this year :A

As I've never done a typical weekly shop (the reason I think I haven't kept up in the past), I'm gonna do a yearly challenge with the total including food and cleaning products/other stuff regularly bought in supermarkets but NOT fuel  That would double the GC budget!

Shall have a total of £2000/year, please :)

My freezer and cupboards are full so we'll see how we go :)
  • Going to give this a go with gusto this year as need to get my debt situation sorted. Going to start with a realistic budget that I think I can stick with and hopefully whittle it down over the coming months, please put me down for £350 this month please:)

  • Hi All

I've done the GC in the past but not posted updates as I should have, even though I've still tried to stick to, and occasionally come under, budget!

So, for 2012 I shall be joining you all again. I will be following on from last year where I did a big shop that is delivered every other month. This usually comes in around £150 and includes all heavy things and anything I can stock up on that's on offer etc etc. Then I pop to Tesco every week on a Sunday to get the following week's top ups. I do my meal plans pre the shop and stick to the list, most of the time! However I have no meals plans done for 2012 yet - my last one I did in November right up until year end.

I had a big delivery in Dec and the pantry and freezers are nice and full. There are 4 of us in the house and we all have packed lunches (2 adults, 1 4 YO and 1 1YO), all have breakfasts and all have tea in the house. I will need top ups for the first week back then every sunday after that. I should have enough meat to see me through until feb's shop which is the next big one.

Therefore I aim to spend no more than £15 a week and there are 4 Sunday's before my next pay so budget for Jan is £60 please op.

:TGood Luck and Happy New Year.:T
    Debt - CCV £3792
CCB £1383 (took a hit for a holiday)

    Loan 1 £1787
    Loan 2 £1683
    Total £8601 Was £39302

  • Hi All,

I signed up to the GC for the first time for January. I am really looking for some advice from all those who are already very savvy.

I am quite good at menu planning, I cook every evening enough for 4 portions, we then have two for dinner and two for packed lunches the following day. We generally shop at Mr A as its more convenient, however I do work quite near a Home Barga*ns and Pound something I think there is also an Ald* or L*dl there too. Can anyone advise which products are alot cheaper at the supermarket.

Also looking for any advice from cat owners. I have two cats, and currently spend £35 a month feeding them, thats based on two pouches each a day and some dried biscuits to tide them over!

Anyways all advice greatly recieved and good luck to all those both new and experienced at this GC!

  • I know I said that I wasn't spending anything until the new year, but... nipped to the shops earlier and picked up a huge pork joint half price then reduced again and some pork steaks reduced and a few other bits. I ended up spending nearly £20 but I have enough stuff there for approx 30 portions. ok I could've done without the choc fingers and popcorn and probably even the greggs pasties that i bought as well:o If only I could've left the kids somewhere I might have remembered to buy the bread that I originally went in for:mad:. I'll need a small shop next week ready for butty boxes for school, but planning on keeping the spend low.
