  • AberdeenSaver, I think it depends on what you buy. Your best bet is to write down the prices of things you usually buy at Asda or do a print out from the Asda site and then take it with you to Lidl etc. Don't forget also with special offers etc. sometimes one might be cheaper then the others. So keep an eye on the websites.

  • Also looking for any advice from cat owners. I have two cats, and currently spend £35 a month feeding them, thats based on two pouches each a day and some dried biscuits to tide them over!

Bulk buy online ..... what dry do you use? Mine get Royal Canin & I used to buy 2kg bags from the pet shop @ £17 (lasted a month) = £8.50/cat/month.

    I recently got 2 x 4kg bags BOGOF online @ £28 (will last 4 months) = £3.50/cat/month.

10kg bags also work out a similar amount if bought when an offer's on.

Saving £10/month - which covers the cost of their boosters that are becoming extortionately expensive!

Similar with pouches... if you want a list of retailers I've used (and not had problems with re delivery etc), let me know.:)

My husband is away at the moment and I have a lot of food in the freezer so I am aiming to only spend £250 in Jan (which starts on Friday for us due to payday)

    Good morning

can I join in this year, really need to get on top of spending and start saving, so thinking £400 per month thats for 4 adults, 2 rabbits a cat and 3 fish.
Will use the cash only method when I go shopping and do a weekly menu so we know in advance what is needed when shopping so hopefully will stay on track.

We are out every day until the 1st for our main meal at various friends , I need to buy ham and salad bits for lunches and some loo roll but other than that have enough to get us through December, I will do a big shop on Saturday or Sunday (are shops open NYD? I'm fairly sure they are BH hours) so will start my challenge then. I tend to do my big shop on a Monday but will be working Mondays now so need to establish a new routine!!
