Caro100 - if the local paper doesn't want to take up the story, there are still options to post on the papers internet site in the Letter section. Our local papers all start with Thisis be it Bath, Bristol, Somerset etc

I'm sure you've googled for lost dogs, but don't forget that a lot of people can't spell and go for Dalmation rather than Dalmatian, I find it hard to believe that even if the owner is not internet savvy, they would have friends and family on the case.

Just want to say what I said before, your son is a credit to you in his actions, and you are a lovely person for doing what is right for the dog, you are not looking for legal ownership, you just want to give the dog a chance to be reunited with the real owners, so stuff the 7/28 day rule, I know you will be sad to part, but even if it's after 6 months you'd happily let the dog go back to her original family.

I find it hard to comprehend that a lost dalmatian can't be found easily, they are very distinctive, it's not like "Black cross breed".

Heaven forbid if I ever lost my dog, but I hope to God he would be found by someone like you.

    xxx

PS. Just done a quick read on the breed - you are honoured that she has taken to you so well, as they are said to be aloof with people they aren't familiar with.

Kelly kindly emailed me this morning Almond after me getting in touch with her-gettingready gave me her email address :)

For what it's worth Caro- I don't know what I'd do in your position. Before 05/11- I probably would have done exactly what you're doing- look after the dog until either owner could be found or a rescue place.. now- I just don't know..although I probably would do the same, but be doing what you are- calling vets, DWs, putting on doglost etc. Be exploring every avenue.

I'd love to think Ruars is with someone who's kind to him, and spoiling him-but also would like to think they are doing everything in their possible power to find his owner.
Ruaridh Armstrong-missing since 05/11/11. Come home old boy-we miss you x

If you can't stand behind our troops, please feel free to stand in front of them.

I will respect your opinions, even if I don't agree with them :)

Thanks for your kind words Sally A. As you can see 'Spot' is definitely more dalmation than x, so very distinctive :)

    Aww, she's lovely.

Is there a small bit of springer spaniel in her do you reckon?

Sazzy, I have been a lurker on your thread since Ruirs went missing (and also on Gettingready's thread about the kittens, as they were both running alongside each other round about the same time). Although I didn't post, my thoughts were always with you all and I like many others logged in to hear of any news several times a day.

It's really difficult to know the right course of action to take when finding a dog, something I hadn't ever thought about as I have never been in this position before. I have kept the dog close to where she was found (200 yards away) and been active in trying to find her owner. Hopefully she will have more than a fighting chance of having a happy future, whether or not we find her owners- I will make sure of that, and that's all I can do. Whether she is just lost or has been dumped :(, I will not have her on my conscience thinking she may be PTS through no fault of her own- thats just the way it is.

Our vet reckoned dalmation x pointer, and yes she's a lovely dog and really nice natured. Gets on famously with my 3 dogs too. I really hope there is a happy ending for her :)

Well she's still here unclaimed and I'm feeling quite sad that no-one has come for her poor thing :(

What a beautiful dog. Incredible to think nobody has claimed her, poor girl.

This does illustrate, though, that caring people will take a stray dog in and keep it, rather than handing it over to the dog warden and running the risk that the dog may be put to sleep after 7 days. I really believe this is what's happened with Ruaridh, the dog who went missing on Bonfire Night in Nairn...someone took him in and reckoned he'd be put to sleep if they handed him over, so they're keeping him safe at their home with them.

How terrible for you to have found yourself in such an impossible situation. Fwiw I think you definitely did the right thing by taking her in, you just have to think if it was your dog what would you have wanted somebody to do.

Just my own thoughts (and I'm certainly no expert!) but what makes you think she is a Dalmation cross? What sort of size is she because you do get Pure dalmations with a lot of black on their ears / face like that? Just wondering if someone who may have not seen her photo would rule her out thinking their dog is not a cross?

Good luck with everything and hope there turns out to be a happy ending.:)
