Why people do not microchip their pets?
Zara is chipped and has a collar with 2 discs attached to it.... all my cats are chipped....
In fairness when we took Spot to the vets when we first got him, the vet we saw suggested that we waited until he was older so that they could microchip him at the same time that he had the snip as she said it was kinder.
Of course, when he got lost one of the first questions we were asked was was he microchipped.
So as soon as the vets opened after finding him an appointment was made for him to be microchipped - tough if he found it uncomfortable.
Having said that though we also got a gps for him to wear so all bases are now covered!2014 Target;

The dog is an adult though....
I always chipped my lot when they were neutered - while asleep . As I too feel I rather not cause them pain with the massive needle.
But all my lot were neutered at 6 months and cats not allowed out before then at all and dog only on a lead/with collar and tag so.....
OP - the dog you found, had it any kind of a collar on at all?0 -

Interesting, I am having the same discussion with my vet about microchipping my puppy and they want to wait until he has the snip.
Interested in the GPS too, do you have more info?:j Proud Member of Mike's Mob :j0 -

The vet we took her to said she was a 'young' adult by looking at her teeth and no she didn't have a collar on her when found which is why I assumed she had escaped- with her being able to open doors herself.0 -

Well I don't know how much it cost - OH ordered it without me knowing (big softie that he is) - so I can't help you with that but its made by garmin.
Its about 3 inches long and it comes in its own little pouch which has been put on his collar and the location of the gps can be tracked on line or using the garmin app on our mobile (very useful when you want to know where the OH is when he walks Spot:rotfl::rotfl:)
You can set up the system so that if the gps leaves a predetermined area, an email is sent and another email is sent when it returns to that area (so perhaps useful if you want to check up on the dogwalker)
Definitely given me peace of mind.2014 Target;

Those GPS thingys would be brillinat if they were inside the microchip - attached to the collar... I do not know - if someone wants to steal a dog, they will take the collar off..
Perhaps one day... they may build them into the microchip....0 -

I understand what you're saying but we were looking at it primarily from a point of view if he wandered off again - though I have to say that his recall, since he got lost, is dramatically better;)2014 Target;

Personally I can't see why it hasn't been developed already - as it must be the next logical step2014 Target;
