  • Thanks everyone for your kind words

Thrifty is all about the good fight, so I am still soldering on. I have a wonderful life here with OH, and my debt free journey has taught me about the important things in life.

Made positive in roads and set down an order for some plants to grow on the allotment. We have a v small north facing garden here, so not many things will grow. I've ordered seeds for echinops, echinacea, and some white frilly poppies, these I can throw in the ground and have a lovely display (fingers crossed) come the end of June. Left it a bit too late to plant spring bulbs so might splurge on some shop bought flowering ones in the new year.

Emotions are still all over the place. Yes I have come out fighting, this didn't defeat me, so I guess it is a bit of relief, regret, but nevertheless I'm moving forward all the time. Life is starting again in 2012 and how better to celebrate it than with some nice cheery dafs and crocusses. Ah bliss.

  • Ok, so what am I going to do for my debt free date, which has now moved forward to Friday 24 Feb? How could I not do it in an MSE Style? I am booking the day off work (oh and they will give it to me, considering they made me work while everyone else was off at the Christmas party), I am going to allocate a crisp £10 note to the day- in fact I might even make a little box of these things now- bag of thorntons chocolates from the pound shop, a montaigne jeunesse face pack, a small glass of fizzy and some ingredients to make myself a nice lunch. Yes, that's what I'll do. :)

  • Just to say that the above is in reaction to looking at prices for a spa day or even a facial. I'd really like one, but my new DFW self couldn't bare to part with the cash. The list so far looks like this.....

    1. Bag of thorntons chocolates £1.
    2. Montagne Jeunesse face pack £1
    3. Can of Cosmopolitan drink (to be served in a nice martini glass I have for such an occasion)
    4. A great stonking bag of my favourite cheesy poofs from M&S. 95P. All leaving £6.05 for a nice sandwich and a DVD. Not a bad day lined up eh?

Sounds good :D Not long now and you will be Debt free :D
  • Wishing everyone a Happy New Year!

Shredding stuff today has had the emotions up and down again. However this evening I'm donning my glad rags and taking some home made food (OH made it, not me unfortunately) to a friends house to bring in the New Year.

    Cheerio, better get ready!

  • Happy New Year!

So this year I made 2 resolutions that I knew were achievable-to get debt free, and to have some savings. I have a small money box on the bedside table, and last night I put in my first £. The idea is to put in a pound a week, and then use that money at Christmas or just keep saving it. The first pound went in last night, so I have honoured that promise to myself. If this is the only money I save in 2012 the resolution has still been met.

And so I hope everyone isn't nursing too bad a hangover this morning, and may 2012 be the year where your dreams come true. xx

  • How lovely. Sitting here in bed listening to the birds singing. A reminder that spring is on its way. Ah, bliss.

Happy new year thrifty! Sounds like you had a really pleasant start to the year.

Well done on your pound jar! We used to put a pound each a week into a pot and it really makes a difference. We used to treat ourselves and add a £2 coin if we ever got one of those too! :p
Wandered away from the MSE track for a while but am back and on a mission! Debts cleared nearly £18k. Now to start saving ...
