i'm the proud (and v lucky! :D) owner of a candy apple red Artisan and agree it is a thing of beauty, and like Molly41 & Becky_sleaf, I didnt use it initially, just admired it! :o

of course there will be different opinions, I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Cuisinart stand mixers?

not surprised Assistent haven't been though- not v MSE at that price  though they are supposed to be the ultimate, lol. lotto winning option perhaps? :)

@Lapis Lazuli - in that case, what about the Bosch instead of either Kenwood or Kitchenaid? :)

    Yes folks...it's a kenwood km201....:D

Came with whisk and k-beater... Made the most amazing meringues just with icing sugar and egg whites.....Tad noisy but still. No I don't have room for it but never mind. Hoping the Magimix FP will go where the popcorn maker currently is....Can't afford the price of slicing disks right now (magimix is just a le mini). Not prepared to lift it on and off the worksurface so have found DV a cover for it off ebay cheap (just a vintage one...Like those those noticed someone making CK ones on ebay)....

Also got instructions for it for 50p here (this is the KM201 google) and what not

Now just need to get goodies off ebay LOL...use my magimix every day near enough. Hope this purchase will significantly improve my baking and bread making

    Well done! :D

This is gonna sound so spoilt and I didn't mention it before but I have my Granny's chef - which is older than my mum and still runs like a dream. I obviously adore it for sentimental reasons and the fact that it still makes brill cakes.

but it's not a CA red kitchenaid :o

Btw, my mum sold all but the most basic (and my Granny had quite the collection!) attachments for pennies at a car boot

Och I've managed to put chuck out (well will do tomorrow) the popcorn maker (gotten for like £6 last year or the year before. Knew it wouldn't last long as a needed gadget in my kitchen so got it cheap) and the ice cream maker (charity shop again) so will be nice and MSE and not buy the liquidiser for it..

Yeah I got my instructions off that kenwood restore site and a fab recipe book as well for 50p (think it was part of the 701 instructions).

Is the juice extractor (next to the end cap) really necessary these days? Took the end cap off and noticed like grease coming out which I thought was just cos it hasn't been used for a while. And where do I grease it and what oil do I use?....the top whirly thing by the knob end works fine :D

just ordered a dough hook (not much difference in price between that and new but it comes quicker :D)....

    Thanks for all the congrats....

Has anyone btw considered the andrew James as an alternative to the K-mix/Bosch? they look sturdier and have better reviews....

Ya ma by the way is off my cookie list freya LOL.........;) (no offence just teasing)

Okay just tried to make mashed potato using the k-beater. Put the tea towel over to avoid splatters...worked..

Only put it on low speed but it made a chug chug chugging noise...like the motor was straining or something (think it went upto about 3)...is that normal?

Pardon all my newbie questions..pray no one minds

LoL! It's because of the colour :p

My Granny's is white with an almost duck-egg blue accent. And my kettle and toaster are red. It's just so it matches, you know? :A

I'm afraid I can't really answer your question, I've never made mash with mine but it hasn't made any funny 'struggling' noises any other time I've had it on. Does it make the noises when you don't have anything in it? :undecided

    They are quite noisy though!

That's an idea I might try putting just water in it or something

Could be the potatoes (they weren't fully cooked)

I have a lovely Kitchenaid Artisan in cream (I decided to redo the kitchen in red after buying it but don't think I'd get away with asking O/H to swap it for a red one :rotfl:) and I love it. I have the Kitchenaid blender too (fab for crushing ice and blending soup) and the Kitchenaid food processor but they are hardly used compared to the Artisan. I bought it a few years ago and it is used almost daily.

I also got the Kmix hand mixer in raspberry red for Christmas and it is useful for whipping cream and those times when getting the mixer out and then having to wash all the bits after is just a little bit too much hassle! However, my one bug bear is that the mixer doesn't fit on the stand properly because the cable is too long :undecided
