Can a food processor do cakes or do I 'need' a Kitchaid Artisan?

laracroft, I just read some reviews about it leaving bits on the bowl when creaming, is that right? It has a better motor than the kitchenaid ie better for heavier work. I am not jumping in feet first this time. I did love my chef but dd1 had more need for it at the time and the chef was a good workhorse but I am not getting another as it is `ugly` and I want something I can gaze at0

Yes I gaze at my blue one a lot! It is so pretty - but I still use my hand mixer to make cakes :eek:I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -

Another Kenwood Chef fan here- Mum had the original and it lasted for years and was still going strong when she moved house and gave it away. We have the newest model and it does everything I need it to do (and then some) I can't imagine anything better0

I've got the kitchen aid Artisan in cream... its a thing of beauty and I do admit to occaisionally stroking it as I walk by it!!
Its on show next to my magimix!!! OH got me it for xmas a couple of years ago. I got a free glass bowl and cookbook with it, so there are deals out there plus you could get it through a cashback site.
Its definately not just for show tho. We use it a lot to knead dough when making bread and of course for making cakes etc. It takes the hard work out of baking.£2019 in 2019 #44 - 864.06/20190 -
ooh I'm drooling now over this thread. Like the OP I've been 'thinking' about getting a Kitchen Aid for months now but have to justify it in my head. Well I've been selling old clothes on ebay and have £120 in my paypal, so after reading all this I'm going to keep going till I've got enough funds.
Only got to work out which colour and look for a good deal now.
I've heard of Black Friday deals must find out about them.
Oh and clear the worktops...0 -
The Kitchenaid is more expensive than a Kenwood Chef and less versatile because it has fewer power outlets. For example, you can't put a blender on the back of a Kitchenaid. In addition, the attachments for a Kitchenaid are way more expensive as demonstrated earlier in the thread. Kitchenaids may be pretty, but why pay more money for an inferior product just because it looks nicer? It doesn't make sense to me. :think:0

I have an old Kenwood Chef, kindly donated to me by my MIL. It doesn't have any of the attachments (blender etc.) except for a spare bowl and I have the dough hook, beater and whisk, but that isn't why I don't use it a lot - I hate the way the flour goes everywhere and the bottom of the mix never seems to be incorporated properly.
I only have a mini food processor, and have to do stuff in that in batches, and for cakes I use my hand mixer and the cakes always seem to come out nice!Donna
Economy; careful management; providence. Whether you call it thrifty or frugality it all comes down to getting more for your money.0 -

For the same reason I have pretty pictures on the walls - life is too short to look at ugly things!Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.
Faith is the denial of observation, so that belief can be preserved.

This thread is reminding of the psychological inpact I suffered on Christmas day...
I hinted and hinted for one of these lovies, and DH mentioned that he knew what I was talking about. Then on Christmas eve he was saying that he thought the red one looked much nicer than the purple one I asked for. OK I thought red is good....I was sooo pleased that I had my lovely new mixer under the tree we had 'special cuddles' ;-)
Roll on Christmas morning....What did I bloody get a RED kitchen weighing scale and no mixer to mix the ingredients in!!!
Still not happy.0
