Can a food processor do cakes or do I 'need' a Kitchaid Artisan?

I have an old Kenwood Chef, kindly donated to me by my MIL. It doesn't have any of the attachments (blender etc.) except for a spare bowl and I have the dough hook, beater and whisk, but that isn't why I don't use it a lot - I hate the way the flour goes everywhere and the bottom of the mix never seems to be incorporated properly.
I only have a mini food processor, and have to do stuff in that in batches, and for cakes I use my hand mixer and the cakes always seem to come out nice!
Put a clean tea towel over the top of the bowl when you're mixing flour or icing sugar. I have a cover for mine but my Mum doesn't, and this is what she does (her machine is older than me and i'm 43, and it's used weekly.)
Also, you can adjust the nut on the beater, whisk and dough hook. This should help with ingredients that aren't getting mixed in.0 -

I hinted and hinted for one of these lovies, and DH mentioned that he knew what I was talking about. Then on Christmas eve he was saying that he thought the red one looked much nicer than the purple one I asked for. OK I thought red is good....I was sooo pleased that I had my lovely new mixer under the tree we had 'special cuddles' ;-)
Roll on Christmas morning....What did I bloody get a RED kitchen weighing scale and no mixer to mix the ingredients in!!!
Still not happy.Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.
Faith is the denial of observation, so that belief can be preserved.

I know what you're gettiing at and to an extent I agree, but...for such an expensive item, functionality (at least for me) takes precedence over looks, and I'd go for the Kenwood because you get the best bang for buck. The machine is cheaper and more versatile, and the attachments (if you ever want them) are cheaper too, so it is better value in both the long and the short term. The only real advantage that I can see of the Kitchenaid is that some people like it's looks. I don't (to me they look ugly and graceless) but that's a matter of personal taste. It's the versatility and the cost that really does it for me in this scenario.0 -

Sounds like you need one of these:0 -
I stopped sitting on my hands and have ordered a kmix stand mixer in almond. It will arrive next week and I have put all baking on hold until it arrives, I already have a kmix hand mixer and it is very robust and useful so I am expecting the same high standards. I`ll just need the grater attachment now0

I'm just on here cos I managed to get the following yesterday from the charity shop for £24 :j :j :j
Yes folks...it's a kenwood km201....:D
Came with whisk and k-beater... Made the most amazing meringues just with icing sugar and egg whites.....Tad noisy but still. No I don't have room for it but never mind. Hoping the Magimix FP will go where the popcorn maker currently is....Can't afford the price of slicing disks right now (magimix is just a le mini). Not prepared to lift it on and off the worksurface so have found DV a cover for it off ebay cheap (just a vintage one...Like those those noticed someone making CK ones on ebay)....
Also got instructions for it for 50p here (this is the KM201 google) and what not
Now just need to get goodies off ebay LOL...use my magimix every day near enough. Hope this purchase will significantly improve my baking and bread making

congratulations erme, the chef certainly is an excellent workhorse. Dd has mine and I expect it will go on for years and years, they have children so it is perfect for them
My kmix is a dream and has a much smaller footprint than chef and I did get the grater/fruit juicer and mincer/sausage maker, which I have managed to fit into a cupboard above the kmix, so it is all to hand. I have made sausages with bits from tongmaster, so easy to do and very delicious. I`ll be making bread today. I do like the way the stand mixer has slotted into my food prep so easily, ie no conscious effort and a use for all my gadgets
Its lovely to look at
Re sausages, I used 400g of left over frozen sausage meat (good stuff) and next time will make at least 5lb using fresh meat as freezing sausages is the way forward0
