Can a food processor do cakes or do I 'need' a Kitchaid Artisan?

The ease of cleaning (and the prettiness :A) is the reason I want one. Ok, it's mainly the prettiness :o

I've commited myself to doing a grocery challenge. I set £2k for the year but then decided that's quite a high amount. So, anything that's leftover will go towards my new candy apple red kitchenaid with some attachments and another blender - the triblade one :)

Again, it's not a need, but if you want it, and can maneouvre some room in the budget, then it's a nice piece of kit to have.

I had been admiring them for years but always talked myself out of it. My mum had given me a generous sum for xmas 2009, I had not spent it and during 2010 she died, so I bought it as a last gift from her to me.

I have determined to get mine out of the box and use it as I realise I am very lucky:o

The trick is to find a permanent spot for it on the counter - that way you'll see it and use it more often :D

I have a KitchenAid Classic and a Magimix 4200. Like one of the previous posters, I use the KitchenAid for cakes, doughs, pasta and meringues while the Magimix grates, chops and everything else!

I persuaded my now DH to buy one for me when we moved in together - it has been going strong for 13 years now, and is used almost daily. I love it and love baking. It gives great results, I even make my own mayonnaise in it. Worth saving for, it will give years of pleasure :D

  • I have a cuisinart elite 3.8 processor and believe me I hummed and haaa-ed for a long time. I had given my be-loved kenwood chef to dd together with lots of attachments as I needed the room and naturally she was utterly delighted. I worked out that the processor would do all I wanted it to do, except mix my christmas cake, as I now also have a kenwood hand held. Yes it does and is utterly good at its job, even bread dough.

The kitchen aid is glorious but I would need all the kit as well but then I would be back at square one. If you have the space and are dithering, then don`t, it is an absolute beauty

I bought my Kitchen Aid from John Lewis when the Artisan came out and they sold off their demo. It only came with one whisk and no flat beater but I use it all the time for sponge cakes, rubbing in butter for scones, bread (do American recipe with flour added to whisked liquid) and lots of other things.

I have virtually no work surfaces free but it sits out and gets used lots. It tends to look filthy as it's always splattered with food but I'm always cooking. I carried it home from the shop and nearly died as it's so heavy but worth every (reduced) penny and all the sweat expended! I buy a lot of gadgets but it's the only one I use often.

Oooooohhhh Please share your mayonaise recipe, I absolutely love my kitchenaid. I use it atleast a few times a week. I'm really hoping to use my icecream attachment for the first time tonight!!!! eeek so exciting!
  • All the Professionals Chefs use Kitchen Aids, if I could get a Bargain I would elect for this one.
I have no idea how the all singing all dancing Kenwood Chef with all accessories or needed accessories compares with the superior? Kitchen Aid.

Technically speaking (wattage etc) the ken wood is better. But it's sooooooooo ugly!

Faith is the denial of observation, so that belief can be preserved.

  • You can't compare the wattage on a like for like basis as the KitchenAid has a direct drive system and the Kenwood is an indirect drive system so it's a bit apples and pears to compare on this basis (is there a geek smilie?!).

My guess is that the two are fairly similar but that the Kitchen Aid has a bit of a cult following. IIRC there is a very good repair system for Kitchen Aids where an engineer will come out and fix them.

It's worth finding a decent independing kitchen shop that sells both and asking them about the different mdels - I did this and decided that on looks and "trendyness" I'd have liked the Kitchen Aid but as I was buying with a budget in mind I bought the Kenwood.

If someone was generous enough to give me a Kitchen Aid Artisan I would use it not only use it but I would accessoriese it to within an inch of it's life and write the giver the most effusive thankful missive.
If it was a genuinely unwanted gift so no financial outlay.
