Can a food processor do cakes or do I 'need' a Kitchaid Artisan?

I've been lucky enough to receive a Kitchen Aid for Christmas
I love baking & up until a few months ago when I did bake I'd have to do everything by hand. I then bought a food processor with some birthday money I had in September & that has been used more than if I'd done everything by hand then hubby saw me eyeing up the Kitchen Aid & shopped around & got me one for Christmas. I unpacked it last night & it now takes pride of place. I've not used it yet but will be doing before the week is out. Def worth shopping around as mine came with a glass & metal bowl. I think the glass bowl should have been an extra £60ish...Oh & I got a set of Stabatier steak knife & forks thrown in all for £400.
Our 1st baby is due 29th December 2007! :rudolf:
I'm hopeful that this get's me out of cooking Christmas dinner!
Baby Ruby arrived after 55 hours of labour & an emergency c section on Christmas Day at 14.41 weighing 6lb 6oz...And yes I did get out of cooking Christmas dinner!!:rotfl:0 -
Course you don't need one, but they're ever so pretty aren't they
Mine would be the artisan in candy apple red - it'd look completely amazing in my kitchen.
If you have the money and will use and enjoy it, then I don't see anything wrong with getting one. But it's definitely not a need0 -
I'm after a Kenwood Kmix. Anyone know of any decent offers?Cath x

THanks everyone. Good to know I'm better off with my cheapy hand mixer for sponges - I am known for my light sponges so I don't want to jeopardise my reputation!
Maybe when we get the kitchen done (as part of redoing the whole house) in a few years I will sneak one into the budget or keep looking for one second hand.
OH unexpectedly bought me an iPod for Christmas so he's not tight but we don;t have hundreds of pounds to spare right now, sadly. DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

I find mine are lighter with the KitchenAid. I've had several surprise me with how much they've risen - so much so that they didn't fit in normal cake boxes!Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.
Faith is the denial of observation, so that belief can be preserved.

I have a magimix I use for soups, grating, breadcrumbs...and now a kitchenaid which i use for mixing and pastry.
The kitchen aid looks fabulous and is a good simple easy to clean mixer so I use it quite a lot. I have only had it for about 16 months whilst having had magimix's for almost 30 years. Not noticed that cakes are better or not - just less washing up.
For us the kitchenaid is worth making room for.0 -
Do they ever appear on eBay or is that wishful thinking?:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

I've commited myself to doing a grocery challenge. I set £2k for the year but then decided that's quite a high amount. So, anything that's leftover will go towards my new candy apple red kitchenaid with some attachments and another blender - the triblade one
Again, it's not a need, but if you want it, and can maneouvre some room in the budget, then it's a nice piece of kit to have.0 -
I have determined to get mine out of the box and use it as I realise I am very lucky:oI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0
