Can you use a Kindle on a plane or does it have to be switched off when they request that you shut down electronic devices?

You can use it anytime

You shouldn't have any trouble on the plane, however, I read somewhere that it's a good idea to turn off the kindle completely (so screen goes completely white - no screensaver) when putting it through the security xray machines because of how the screen works...
