This princess cross stitch design is nice as well. I started off on tapestry when I was younger, not many mistakes to make, but I think I still make some lol.
Thanks catwoman, I'd completely forgotten about little tapestry kits. I used to do them at about my daughters age (7). I'll wait until her birthday though to get a kit for her. For now I will just let her have a go on spare aida so it doesn't cost me anything if she gives up after 5 minutes!!
elliep- thanks, I'll send you my email.
Emma - that's a lovely idea to stitch the poem, I'm sure someone here will know how to do convert it.Cross Stitch Cafe member no.800 -
Morning all.
Some great progress on your projects. A couple of questions I am hoping someone can help me with.
Does anyone know where you can get a poem converted into a chart - it is a reading that was done at my Dad's funeral.
I'm sure there are but if you have the time to spare you can get LOADS of different font stitching charts and with a bit of square paper make one yourself. Lovely idea BTW.Also, after going through some of my bargain old X-stitch magazines, I have seen a range of DMC mini Country Companion kits featuring Ed the Hedgehog. Managed to find one on ebay but no luck in any of the others. Does this ring bells with any of you please.
I *think* I have a country companions chart book at home will have a look later for you. which magazine was it cause between us I think we have most of them dating back as far as you need.loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:0 -
Well QVC are certainly mixing up their crafting stuff.
I just watched a programme I recorded yesterday afternoon and sure enough Bothy Threads kits etc.
No idea if their prices are any good as I've not looked at buying their kits.0 -
I'm doing the 3 for £3 with craftseller at the moment but I'm not finding it all that useful. I've only had one issue, has anyone else read it and what did you think?
I'm doing that one too. Last night, I was going through all my magazines making a note of things I might want to make and that had consistently most in each magazine. Although I do segregate my cross-stitch mags from my sewing mags - if I were looking through the Craftseller ones for just XS stuff, I think I'd be disappointed.ps. Does everyone like the new heading/design of the site? It's annoying me and hurting my eyes, but I think that's cos I'm getting old and I don't like change :rotfl:
Oooh, a new heading - I hadn't even noticed, to be honest! It's not bad, I suppose.0 -

I don't only do cross stitch, but I've just not found it very inspirational. I'll give it the rest of the cheap trial but I can't see myself wanting to carry on.0 -

Quick question. I did the 3 for £3 WOXS offer last year with my last issue being the December one. does anyone know if I can do another offer subscription or would I need to subscribe for the full amount this time?
Any help gratefully received.
If you cancel the direct debit via your online banking service they can't take more money even if you haven't called them to cancel. If you can I would use a different bank account for next subscription to avoid complications0 -

How about Binka? I think that's it's called, like Aida but bigger holes. I have some somewhere.. U could have a sheet for her to try if you'd like?Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. Frugal Living Challenger. No buying cleaning products. I was stitching whilst I watched it too. Hubby wished he had a reason to look away from the screen, I actually enjoyed watching his reaction more than the film, as he went clammy and pale when the bloke started cutting his arm off!!
When my OH saw it in the cinema, someone got taken ill at that exact point! my OH ran out to summon help while other patrons attended the man. film was paused, lights on, paramedics attended - man ok, people grumbled at the inconvenience and mean cinema couldn't rewind film :mad:I find it really interesting seeing everyone's pictures, how people work in different ways.
I guess I've pretty much always started from the centre and worked out and up and down, depending where the colour takes me.
But I am seeing that several of you seem to work from top to bottom - is that to keep your work clean?
The only concession to that I have ever made is to work all the white stitches at the end.
I'm also really struck by how many of you mark the fabric out with the pens - do they work on linen too?
What I found particularly interesting about Troutbeck, is that you appear to be working it in blocks too? Does that not show when it is finished? (I mean the fact that you have stitched in blocks - not the markers - I understand that they wash out) :T
I am a start in the centre work outwards girl although if its a small design and I am stitching on a bigger piece of material then I will usually start in a top corner. I stitch the darker colours first and leave the lighter colours/white till last. I have started on some designs to do the back stitch as I go along.... I did buy one of those mark the material pens but haven't used it and don't know what I did with it! I have bought magic aida but haven't tried that either yet!I've had 3 for £3 on both CrossStitcher and Cross Stitch Collection and it's been fine. You do have to phone to cancel and they will ask why you're cancelling but you can tell them anything you like and they still have to cancel it. I think I told them I didn't like the new style CrossStitcher (true) and that I couldn't afford to keep the Cross Stitch Collection sub going after the offer period (also true). It was fine and I never had them try to take money when they shouldn't.

I was tempted by cross stitch collection the other day but not with the £4.99 price tag. there is a nice mum design in next month's issue but will wait till it comes out in the shops and see if its worth the expenditure. I'm not overly impressed with future at the moment and if it wasn't for the emily peacock letters and the odd item in each mag that I like, I would probably cancel my subscription.0 -
I rang last week to re-do the 5 for £5 subscription. I already did this once, then did a 3 for £8.99 one, then rang for another 5 for £5 (rather than continuing the 3 for £8.99 which would have just continued). All they asked for was the code for the offer - no problems and obviously still in my name and same card etc. Quite impressed actually I thought they would question it but they keep sending me emails with the offer so I guess if its a problem its their fault not mine!!
Oh and I don't min the new layout except that I find all the white/grey background really bright - have to try and tune it out!Challenge savings 2010-2016 £1564.60:j
