I just wish the experiments (Shelly???) had with the white marking pen had been fruitful, as I have about 3 projects in the pile to do in black aida.
    xoxo

I seem to remember that there were white pencils for sewing to mark darts and things.
I wonder if they would work, or is that what you already tried?

chicky - that's looking good, I'm sure you'll get there by your deadline.

soulie - you've done a lot. I just googled it to see what the design will be, and I like that one.

Still no update here. Hubby has lost the memory card from my camera and I can't take any pictures (he borrowed it without asking, even though he has his own camera ) More annoyingly the pics of the kids at Christmas are gone if he doesn't find it :(

I've been searching everywhere for a new design I fancy and can't find one. I've given up on doing another Pooh as I seem to have already done all the designs I like! I've decided I really want an in-depth big challenge Disney Princess one, but everything I see is kind of simple and not detailed enough. My daughter has a lovely poster scene of Belle, the Beast and loads of characters, but I can't find anything like it in Cross Stitch. So I shall keep plodding on with African Sunset until I find something I really want to stitch.

CW Really like Troutbeck, is it from a series or a magazine?

I think its just a one off by the designer. Let me know if you want a ;);)
I guess I've pretty much always started from the centre and worked out and up and down, depending where the colour takes me.
But I am seeing that several of you seem to work from top to bottom - is that to keep your work clean?

I normally work centre out unless it's a tiny design. Generally I fold the cart (each A4 page) into quaters then work a quarter at a time (so a big block).
grab a thread a stitch one 10x10 square then if the thread has any left go into the next one. Depending how much is then left of the design. (does that make sense??)
I'm also really struck by how many of you mark the fabric out with the pens - do they work on linen too?

    can't see why they wouldn't.
What I found particularly interesting about Troutbeck, is that you appear to be working it in blocks too? Does that not show when it is finished? (I mean the fact that you have stitched in blocks - not the markers - I understand that they wash out)

I'm stitching more within the 10x10 squares now becuase what you can't tell is I've messed up the big white house (it's 1 column thinner then it should be) so I'm having to now work around that rather then the grid squares that and it is soooo fiddly and the threads are all pre-cut but are cut realllllly short (you can only get about 25-30 stitches out of it when doubled over.)

I've not noticed it to show too badly when finished as I keep the fabric in the hoop (using a large hoop) so the tension is the same for pretty much the whole design.
BTW Well done for remembering/finding who it was that was looking for the ribbon floss - it'll be on it's way today. :T

fingers crossed gonna have to put facebook down for a bit - nooooooooo - am now addicted to bubble witch saga.

Looked last night I think I have the length of the design dropping about 30 squares further down the page then probably around 1/3 of the whole thing again. so quite a lot still to do.

THEN if I get time I will \\ stitch over the // of the sky.

Tis verrry strange as it has no backstitch to define the houses etc and I think the roof's (rooves?) blend into the trees.

But hey ho..... want to get it done as I have cut thro palace which i was hoping to finish for my neice's birthday in April but I fear shall be her Christmas pressie instead.

    :T Chicky you are a star :T
That's just what I was looking for :) Did anyone post finished pictures of theirs? I always like to see what they look like when done.
Hmm.. I wanted Belle, but I also really like Cinderella and Snow White!!

And was the palace the cut thru you started for last year's Bothy threads challenge? I finished my rocket months and months ago, but I have no idea if I ever posted a pic as I vanished from the cafe for a while!

I've got some disney princess charts, they came in a calendar with a magazine years ago but I can nudge them along if anyone wants them. The princesses are quite big, but they are fairly simple designs with big blocks of colour. I think Cinderella's skirt is made of 4 blues, if that gives an idea of the level of detail. I'm not sure if they are what you're after KatyLiz but I can upload a picture if that helps?

I've been looking again today at the variegated threads that my friend from Colorado gave me and I found a name under the store sticker - Leah's.
I've googled it and found some shade charts which unfortunately bear no relation to the colours on my shade chart BUT I did also find this lovely needlwork piece and this is the sort of thing I have in my head that I would like to do.

Not sure that I am supposed to link like this - perhaps one of you could please tell me how you just put up the word HERE!

OK Now I have it sorted!
They are Leah's, but they are overdyed floss, rather than overdyed pearl cotton.
Apparently the colours of the one bear no relation to the colours of the other!
So now I know what they are, how much is on each skein -13 yards and more importantly that I can still get them if I need any more, albeit at $3.75, but then I did get 32 skeins as a gift!
Confirms my thoughts though that she has had them for ages, as these are marked $1.39/1.40!!
I found them on Fireside Stitchery but there were references to them all over the place.

KatyLiz - yes it was, but i got sidetracked making christmas cards (that i forgot i had made and are now in a pile for next year) and Troutbeck.

I would LOVEEEE to tackle a Thomas Kinkade design but I think it would fry my brain. Lookign at the ebay link i posted tho there are some other ones on there i'd LOVE to do but must not buy as won't ever get round to doing it.

    ohh and the linky thing.

write your word HERE....... highlight it..... click the icon above (world with a paperclip)....... paste the URL there. eh voila!
