CW Really like Troutbeck, is it from a series or a magazine?

I find it really interesting seeing everyone's pictures, how people work in different ways.
I guess I've pretty much always started from the centre and worked out and up and down, depending where the colour takes me.
But I am seeing that several of you seem to work from top to bottom - is that to keep your work clean?
The only concession to that I have ever made is to work all the white stitches at the end.
I'm also really struck by how many of you mark the fabric out with the pens - do they work on linen too?
What I found particularly interesting about Troutbeck, is that you appear to be working it in blocks too? Does that not show when it is finished? (I mean the fact that you have stitched in blocks - not the markers - I understand that they wash out)
BTW Well done for remembering/finding who it was that was looking for the ribbon floss - it'll be on it's way today. :T

    Hi Everyone

I've been reading your thread with interest. I originally posted to this site at the beginning of 2010!! Where has the time gone.

Although I haven't update it I have done more than one x stitch since. I was really busy before Christmas and managed to make a few Christmas cards and also some birthday cards during 2011.

Still so many UFOs to do. I still have a large x stitch to do - not even started yet!!! My mum bought it for my 40th ( I am 48 in a couple of weeks ) of a water wheel. I insisted that I would do it. plus lots more...........

My whole stitching is in such a mess. I need thread storage. What do you find is the best?

Any kits that I have done the remains are still in bags.

No dear I have a job on my hands.

I also have UFO for knitting and crocheting. My DS is patiently waiting for a knitted blanket that I planned to do in December 2008 when my DS had a planned admission to hospital.

    I need support

    Thanks

    Jarus

  • Morning Everyone,
My lapframe arrived this morning - which meant I couldn't get the washing on, the dishes done or the bed made - BUT I can now say I love it and hopefully it will speed me up a bit (now I can be 2 handed) and stop the positioning mistakes!
CW that is a lovely scene for your Mum.
Newcook/Debtdalek - I had never heard of marking until I came on here and it really does speed you up and make counting a lot easier, I've only used it so far on one small piece - white aida with pen - marked out in minutes. Then also on my current piece - black aida with thread - took hours but is def worth it now that it is done! I just wish the experiments (Shelly???) had with the white marking pen had been fruitful, as I have about 3 projects in the pile to do in black aida.
    xoxo

b_e_g. Love the windmills. Completely understand what you mean now about my 'splash of colour' comment earlier :D

    benny1981. I can't see a pic?!

Catwoman. Nice progress, can't wait to see it finished.

    Chicky. Coming along nicely.

I too always start from the centre and usually work my way to the top left corner. Then depending on how much fabric I can see I will do the whole left side and work to the right or as I have done with the Tiger I will go across the top and work down.

Yeah that was me! :D I too wish they had worked out better but looking back at the posts I made at the time I think I will be ok.
My experimenting bought me to the conclusion that though the white pencil doesn't wash out completely, if you only do a tiny dot in the centre of where the stitch is going to be you shouldn't see it once stitched over.

  • Ohhh might be worth while after all Shelly!
I think I might be doing pics wrong I just cut and paste from my computer but I think I might need to upload to flicker and link from there possibly. I'll look into it.
