I believe an engagement ring counts as a gift so he can't ask for it back in any case :o

That's exactly what I was thinking Dragon. Hang onto it elliep. When you mentioned the veggies, I thought it must have been April 1st. Hope things work out for you.

Yes he seriously did write that on the divorce papers. I think he phrased it that I 'attempted to significantly influence his diet' but that is what he was referring to! I did offer to swap the rings but apparently he was planning to mount my engagement ring inside his wedding ring so they spin on each other and wear them on some sort of necklace. Quite why he wants to do that is a mystery to me, and the pendant would then be worth over £1,500. Personally I know I couldn't wear something like that without worrying about it! As far as I'm concerned, my wedding and engagement rings are my savings towards my next wedding (no plans yet, but hopefully one day) and I'm not sending him the ring now. He's an idiot for expecting it.

Sorry for the off topic discussion, I'm just really annoyed at him and need to let off some steam. Thank you for letting me.

Don't worry bout that - plenty of Off Topic stuff going on.

I can't believe what a chancer the man is! Dunno why he thinks he should have everything, stay strong and stick to your guns.

I just googled 'engagement ring etiquette' and it came up with this:
    Broken Engagement
    • If an engagement is broken up through mutual agreement, the engagement ring should be returned to the man.
    • If an engagement is broken off by the woman, the engagement ring should be returned to the man (as it was given under the condition of marriage, which did not take place).
    • If an engagement is broken off by the man, the engagement ring should be kept by the woman (and she has every right to throw everything else of his still in her possession out on the front lawn).
    Divorce
As an engagement ring is given to a woman as a conditional gift to result in marriage, once the actual wedding has taken place, that ring is hers forever and ever to keep – whether the marriage lasts two days or twenty years. Looking at it every day might be incredibly painful and throwing it and your wedding band off a cliff might seem like the right thing to do in your heart, but, you are dignified and do what is right; no matter what the circumstances are. Some better options (which, trust me, will make you feel better in the long run and stop some scandalous gossip, as opposed to backing over your rings with your car repeatedly until they’re smashed to oblivion) to follow are:
    • Melt your rings down into some other piece of jewelry you can wear.
    • If you and your ex had an agreement that the ring(s) should be returned in the case of divorce (for instance, if the ring was a family heirloom), regardless of who caused the divorce, you are obligated to keep your end of the bargain and return the ring. Now is not the time to be petty.
    • If you have children, keep the rings as keepsakes to give them when they are older.
    • Sell your rings to a pawn shop or jeweler and buy something fabulous for yourself.
    • If you so feel, you can even return the ring to your ex.

Thank you everyone. Your comments are really helpful. I plan to keep the rings and I'll sell them to get money for a future wedding at some point in the future. It's not a bad idea to sell them now to pay off the debt, then I can start again and save up for whatever I might want in the future.

My crochet is coming on really well though. I'll get on with some x-stitch when I'm in a better mood!

Your Tiger is looking amazing Shelly, you've made quite a bit of progress. Well done!
  • Well done on the progress youve made with your tiger shelly. He's lovely :T

Loved your Stitchers Prayer too Ailsb :T

Ok, I lied I haven't gone to bed. I've had a quick google and here's a picture of An Embrodierer's Prayer.

Can't seem to make it any smaller - sorry.

    OHHH I love it!!!

Ellip: Stupid ba5tard!! Keep the ring I sure would. Sell it to pay off your debts or sell it and put into a wedding saving fund. Either way sell it - get him out of your life - then he CAN'T have it back...... tell him you've lost it/ it fell down a drain/ got stolen by magpies if you prefer.

Sound like the stupid reason my hubby would write on the divorce papers :D
He came in Saturday night - i put the kids to bed - then as I was getting tea out the oven. he said "oh that looks nice is it ready?" to which i replied "yup but it's shepherds pie so you won't it eat" -dished it up and sat down ........ his face was brilliant as he's used to being handed his tea on a plate (so to speak).

Big hugs elliep don't you just hate men sometimes, why is it they think the world revolves around them!

    Isn't that the dicionary definition?
Husband (pronounce: ar5e): a human of the male sex who thinks the world revolves around them and couldn't give a monkeys what anyone else needs, thinks or wants?

Well I was looking forward to a nice stitchy couple of hours after dropping toddlerwiggle off at school. Tinywiggle had me up all night again (i gave in and slept in his bed anyway at midnight) but noooo - little sod is running riot in his walker, grabbing anything and everything he can.
loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:

Well I had great plans for the weekend and today for sorting out the boxroom, but they didn't come to anything.

I love the updates on the tiger and the windmill.

As for the engagement ring - why on earth would he want both?
Tell him in no uncertain terms where to go!!

Just noticed the 365/6 savings thread. What a good idea. Think I might have to sell off some craft stuff each month to raise mine.

Speaking of which - can anyone tell me what ribbon floss is? NO It isn't for your teeth! LOL

Basically my friend gave me 32 reels of it and I thought, as it was on reels, that it was machine embroidery thread but it isn't.

Think it might well be the first thing to go into the fund!!
