Hi Shelly,
Yes it is sort of like backstitch! Or maybe a combination of back and running stitch.
Purists would say that the design should be reversible () I try but don't usually succeed
If you want a good starter piece to try the blackwork owl is a good one as the directions show you how to stitch to make up the filling.
Hope this helpsCross Stitch Cafe Challenger No. 26 :hello:XStitch to do list:-- Birth Sampler -- Christmas Angel -- Mum's Xmas Stitch -- Christmas decs 3 & 4 -- Xmas Bird ---- Snowflake Sonata -- Be Jolly -- JE Unicorn -- Start HAED!!! --0 -
Thanks Skoobie! Appreciate it:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0

Thought I would share this with you guys......my sister found a cemetery card holder for 99p at 'The Card Factory' for me, so I stitched up my own design for my daughter, laminated it and it makes a very personalised touch for the graveside.
(Ps - laminated cross stitch lasts really well - my Dad's fathers day card is still in a really good condition after 3 months outdoors)Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. Louise - That's a lovely sentiment. I don't know the history behind the piece but it is a lovely stitch.
sk00bie - thanks for the link to the owl. I did buy a blackwork kit once but was too daunted by it so sold it on
