  • firefly welcome to the cafe; hopefully we will be suitable distraction and you will get those Xmas cards done. How many are you hoping to stitch?
I have done a couple of individual designs for my OH family in The Netherlands. We can't get Dutch Xmas cards here and not all of his family members speak or read English (especially his mother) so I have decided to make my own. I need at least 5. But I am still back stitching the Joyful snowmen. I didn't get anything done over the last five days because I had to help clear out a friend who passed aways flat - he was a hoarder and it took several skips:eek:. I hope I still have enough time to get it all done before Xmas. There is still alot of back stitching to do and I want it framed and hanging up this Xmas, it has been on the frame for far too long now. But my hands are itching to start the Xmas cards.......but if I do that the snowmen will never get finished....*sigh*

Chickywiggle : I love the Xmas cupcakes.

Magscat : Loving the Hardfrost cross stitch. Also very intrigued by the pregridded cross stitches. I have always just started in the middle and worked my way out. Where can I find out more nformation about pregridded cross stitches.

Sorry if I missed anyone. Love looking at all the updates and finished pics.

My new book is 'the Twitter diaries' not my normal sort of book; I normally go for crime or true life but it was £1.99 in sainburys and my plan is to be super careful with it and then give it as a part Xmas present, with a dictionary of cakes for niece and nephews mum. Lol that makes me sound really tight, but she won't mind me reading it first

ohhh a diary book i like them........... goes back to her 4th home.......... amazon.
eta: nope not gripped by the online excert.

have you read chelsea cains stuff? they are ... well lighthearted crime would be the wrong word as they are VERY graphic, however they make for very easy reading. (linky to first few pages of her latest - 5th - one)

don't do what i did which was buy 5 VERY cheap books in the sale (all funny comedy type) then decide actually i want them and erm well.......... they are still in my bookcase.
loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:
  • Thanks chicky will let you know if it ends up any good!
Will have a look at the linky later, when I turn on the computer x

A little off topic, so I'll apologise at the start. Sorry I've been awol for a few weeks. My grandfather died back in the UK so we had to pack up and ship back. All very emotional and still can't talk about it without sobbing (eyes welling up whilst typing) as we were only days away from making it back in time.

Sister got married at the weekend - so lots more tears that Grandad didn't get to see it. Hopefully now we're getting a few days at the in-laws, I'll get some time to focus my energies on getting on with my black lab (still unfinished I'm ashamed to say) and maybe treat myself to a new little project to cheer myself up.

All of your projects - finished and works in progress - look so lovely I'm hoping I get my mojo back.

    Thanks :)

There's nothing different about the pattern I'm using - it's a Heaven and Earth Designs (usually known as HAED) pattern of MC Escher's "Relativity" painting.

Because it's so huge I decided to get some "Magic Guide" pregridded aida fabric. It has the 10 x 10 squares printed onto the fabric in soluble ink, so that when you've finished the stitching, you wash the fabric and all the lines disappear.

To get the same effect, people also use water soluble pens to mark up the blank fabric themselves (although some brands have been reported to cause issues on coloured aida) or use coloured thread or fishing line to mark out the squares before you start stitching.

Anything that makes the counting easier! :D

WHY WHY WHY Did I have to click on the little innocent linky....I can never resist books and have far too many as it is, but I feel that some may just slip into a basket....although they will have to stay there a while until I get enough money to pay for them....lol

I've been awol for quite awhile.......life can be annoying sometimes:cool:

But I have been stitching, though not as much as I would have liked. Finsihed the Joan elliott Green Goddess and almost finished her summer fairy. Also halfway through the runaway birth sampler (Gorjuss girls Kit) for my neice, pics will follow tomorrow.

With the darker days and nights coming I really want to find a bright and cheerful piece to stitch, maybe Joan elliots father sun.

    Happy stitching everyone:)
