Help ladies (gildius you may be able to help me with this one). Sleeping Beauty is a chinese kit - most things are self explanatory but was wondering what 'side cancels' are??? Had thought possibly half stitches but I don't think that is right. The only other thing it could be is backstitch - and the only thing that is backstitched is her eyelid :j
DH has just photcopied the charts for me - aw bless him. Think he must be after some peace and quiet once I get started.

Ooh, I'm not sure. What does it look like on the chart? In my kit I have instructions for a different sort of half-stitches (they go vertically, rather than diagonally, so you effectively get two really thin crosses where one would normally go) - maybe it's that?0 -
Gildius. Welcome to the cafe. Can't wait to see more progress pics of your Wall.
When I told hubby about Gildius' post he said the same thing pretty much 'You aren't ever visiting China!'
:rotfl: I have picture of a Chinese cross stitch shop I visited, but I'm not sure how to upload it to the forum?0 -
Mine arrived today as well so have added my comments in red
My copy of WOXS arrived today, so look away now if you don't want to see my review :rotfl:
Oriental Bloom - Not something I would stitch for myself or for a family member, but since I have various charities in mind for this year, it could be something to stitch for charity.
Nice, but floral so...pass
Mimi the Kitty - Again, not something I would stitch for myself, but again, got my charity head on here, and I think it would make a nice little gift for a childrens's ward or hospice.
Very cute but got it's got the horrible backstitch
Cliff Top View - I liked the look of it from the front cover, but it looks a bit 'blocky' in full view, so to speak. Maybe it would look better on a larger count.
I do like this, I like pretty scenes and it reminds me of chldhood holidays on the coast. It does look blocky close up but I imagine one it was on a wall and viewed from further away it would look much better
Best of British - Love it! Love the colours too nice and bright. This is already on my list for 13 on 2013
LOVE this London design. Not sure if I will stitch it, it's not somewhere I visit but I think it will be stashed away in case it makes a gift for someone one day
Cocktail Congrats - They are okay I suppose, my favourite one is the 'bottoms up' one as it is more colourful.
Same here. The champagne glass might be useful, but I would omit the straw...who drinks champers through a straw lol?
Subs Only - Not something I would stitch, though I wouldn't mind the 3rd in the set from the website, but it never lets me login!
Umm..nah
Design Library - Not sure I would stitch many of these, maybe as bathroom pictures, but I do love the colours used.
I like these...no....I love these. Perfect little card designs. I'm always short on simple designs for men and that ship looks great. The wedding couple on the beach is so simplistic wish I had it when my friend got married in Malta earlier this year lol. Sunset is pretty too, in fact my fave thread colours (995/996) are used a lot in these.:o Going to stitch one tonight:D
Perfume Bottles - Not for me, and I wish they would get a better photo of Durene, she always looks so miserable!
LOL, have to agree it isn't the best pic - I'm not keen on these either
Cupcake of the Month - Don't like this month's offering, though I do understand what she is trying to do with her designs, but some of them are just TOO themed. If you know what I mean?
Yeah, I've never been keen on these. They would only make sense if you were stitching all twelve of them together.
Sweet Peas - I like it but I can't ever see me stitching it.
Very pretty, one of the few florals I could see me attempting
Fairground Swings - I hated these as a child, so it's definitely something I wouldn't stitch :rotfl:
Not keen on it tbh
Cherry ABC - mmmmmmm Cherries.
Very cute
Furry Tales - Still hate these things, maybe it's because I loved Newton's feature so much! However, this one would make another good one to stitch for charity maybe.
I wouldn't stitch it tbh
Other Stuff:
A note from Margaret - I like her designs, but is this feature really necessary? I stopped reading her 'notes' after reading about her 'oh so many problems' with her house, which she had kindly provided a photo of, a few issues ago. Show off! /rant
lmao:rotfl:
Four Seasons (Pg 24) - I like those, and the colours used. Think I prefer the owls to the russian dolls though.
Out & About - I will read this later as it looks like a really interesting article.
Jen'll Fix It - Nothing I could use there.
Me neither
Free Gift - Worst gift ever. I have tape measures, so I have no need for this one just because it's been all prettied up!
Now see I find that useful - my two youngest are forever nicking my tape measures to 'measure stuff' *rolls eyes* so having a new retractable one is handy to chuck in my box
Next Issue - Looks a bit hit and miss for me. From what is shown, I like All our Yesterdays and the cottage as it reminds me of my Mum's house and of course the free gift has come at the right time, one to add to my charity stash I think!
I was looking at the ballet pictures, my niece and daughter both do ballet so there might be one I do (prob the blue one for niece tbh) It says trio though, and only shows two lol

Sorry, I meant how many stitches high and wide it is.Wouldn't have thought it was 11ct though - and three strands, blimey, bet you're glad you got it as a kit!

I dragged a box around the 2 black rows at the top, right click layer via copy, then move the layer to where you want it, repeat for the other one, lock the layers and hey prestoHappy belated birthday, sounds like it was a good one.
