thank you flowerofscotland - to be 100% honest i have never attempted anything like this before so any advice on where to buy the squares you mentioned would be great and also any advice on how to make it into a quilt would be great also, i have a sewing machine so i thought that as we cant put pictures on the wall for a year!!! now would be a good a good time to learn new skills to make my cross stitch into other things. wish me luck lol

WHSmith does some that are Filofax clones and take either filofax pages or their own. I find the "personal" size best for me but I know a friend finds the smaller one just fine (Personal is about 7.5"x5"x1" - smaller one is about half to two thirds that size)

Managed to crochet yesterday! got two small bits of my sweater done, one more small bit and then I start to join them together and work up the body :D

thank you and to shelly for the poundy shop idea. never seen em in poundland or home bargains, poundworld is at the other side of town :(

think i may have to take a trip to smiths for investigative purposes :p

Love the picture (and the story behind it)

If you keep it simple then making a quilt front is just about machine stitching in straight lines. Charm packs are 5 inch squares and layer cakes are 10inch squares. I would go for 10 inch squares and cut the aida to the same size. With quarter inch seams each square would be 9.5 inches (quilting tends to use imperial measurements) so 6 squares across would give you a quilt front of 57 inches. You could add a border - if the border is cut 21/2 inches wide it would end up as 2 inches after the seam allowance. The advantage of using a layer cake or charm pack is that it saves time in cutting out and the fabrics are from the same range so should always blend well. Layer cakes usually have 40 or 42 squares so if you matched these with aida patches you would have loads (and could use the spare for the border and/or matching cushions). There are lots of places to buy these online but it would be much better to go to a shop if you can as colours are never quite the same on a monitor.
  • Thank you flower of Scotland that is really helpful, will have a look and see what I can find, I maybe back with more questions !

    Afternoon everyone,

Sweetcarer - wooden frame would be a lovely idea. Hope you manage to get it sorted for Friday is it?? Could always be framed afterwards perhaps.

Elle - lovely to see you back with us. :hello:

Keiss - Good luck with auction. Looking forward to seeing your updates.

Mrs F - Welcome to the Cafe. Feel free to drop in anytime and have a chat with us and let us know what you're up to. :hello:

mrs.m - looking forward to seeing your piccies.

Might get a bit of stitching done tonight but I have a book due back at the library by Friday and I was hoping to get it finished in time. Just had a load of bedroom furniture delivered from I£ea so that is how we will be spending our time tomorrow - wonder how long it will take before we stop talking to each other!!!!

Just checked and Sleeping Beauty hasn't been despatched yet - I mean it is nearly 24hrs since I ordered it - me impatient - who said that :p:

    Take care everyone,

I have had a quick google to try and find artist but up to now haven't managed to find out who it could be. I did manage to come up with some 'interesting' pics though PHEW  :rotfl:

Chicky - I have a filofax A5 rip off that I got from Lidl before Christmas to give my nephew only find he's got himself a "real" one. It's got 2012 and 2013 diary in. I don't know if I can PM you a photo but if I can I will show it to you.

MrsF - welcome to the Cafe, no mentioning the weather and you will be just fine.

B-e-g - your IT crowd looks great. Where did you get your frame from? I have the border and part of the fellow in the black top completed. Need to get a wriggle on as it's for hubby's birthday next Wednesday.

Chicky - just realised that the filofax look a like is in the car which is parked at my husbands works and he doesn't go back to pick it up until tomorrow. Will let you know once I have it.
