I looked at this a while back and the fact that the thread can only be stored in skeins put me off it. (Once you start using them it looks a bit messy, and if the labels slide off you lose track of which colour is which)

In true MSE fashion I would save some money and buy these:

    https://secure.surfinteractive.co.uk/leisurecraft-tewkesbury/index.php?route=product/product&path=39&product_id=616

    And plastic storage boxes:

Aside from that, it does look really lovely so feel free to ignore my ramblings lol :o:D

Yes... thats a good point - I hadn't thought of that ! My threads are not very organised at the moment. I did have them in bags according to their number (i.e. 1 to 100) but this fell by the wayside and they are all loose in a box (well a drawer). I route through when I need threads for a new project. Inevitably I don't have what I want although I usually find the next number down/up. Then the project becomes a UFO. Then the thread gets "borrowed" from that UFO only to become another UFO! I must finish what I start!

    morning

Louise i love your dark side stitch, my youngest DS just spotted it and it made him laugh out loud, he thought it is brilliant.

my thread stash is all over the place, ive gto some in bags general non DMC or anchor skiens as well as a few anchor and a bag of special threads and silks like metalics blends hand dyed. Then i have 4 of the big dmc gold storage boxes with the skiens stored on 'bows' and finally two plastic boxes with anchor silks stored wound onto little cards. i must find a way of putting them all in one place. all my stash has been picked up at carboots so theyve all been bargain prices but if i dont organise them i could end up bying something i already have.
finished doing the stitching on the flet heart last night DS loved having the job of soaking it to disolve the plastic cross stitch holes. hoping to get the beads sewn on today and it put together over the weekend.
then might go back to titanic for a bit.

hope everyone stayed safe and dry in last nights storms

  • I absolutely love that box but there is no way I could justify that kind of money.

I have one of the plastic DMC boxes and I love it. I bought one a couple of months ago for my daughter together with a load of threads and its ideal for her.

Its my birthday next week so I've asked my partner to buy me another one for me, again with a load of threads so I can number them. I didn't with my daughters as she does little ones out of books its fine for her.

I just bought a CD with some designs on, I'll post the details on here when I receive it, so thought it would be ideal for them,.

Love that storage chest Flat Eric - but I have to admit when I saw the price I thought I could get a roomba for that price :o thus freeing up more stitchy time ;) (a roomba is an electronic vaccum cleaner that hoovers by itself).
I do think Louises idea is more practicle - but the wooden chest is so pretty...

Fizzymoon is now at backstitch point - 2 days to do it. Any offers to do it for me? :p I hate backstitch like this, it is all bitty.

    Suppose I better crack on.
    Have a lovely day everyone

    .

I love my boxes, I got them a few years ago and have never looked back

I sorted my stash last weekend, the bobbins are filled and I have labelled bags with spare threads for topping up with.

You can understand why I hate when I have to buy a kit instead of just a chart :o

Can be downloaded for free here if anyone wants a copy. Thanks again to mrsmilkybarkid for sending me the link in the first place :)

I did change the border colour though to make it a little more cheerful, so I used 995, my favourite shade :o

just wondering as anyone seen these (see below), Currently looking for a storage solution, just not sure if they'll fit stitchbows and think they'll get messy without... Hmm, I'm slowly coming to the conclusion of plastic bobbins and boxes.

I'm not scrolling back up to cheat - is 995 bright blue (can't think of any better explanation) either 995 or 996 (again not digging out snoopy kit to check) features this colour and I agree its a fab shade :T

Thanks for sharing how you have your threads sorted - out of interest, assuming you are loading a new skein on to one of those bobbins (and do you use cardboard or plastic), do you cut the thread at regular intervals so that what you are in fact loading on to the bobbin is (eg) 10 x (6 strand) bundles of thread? Because I'm guessing when you come to use that colour - it is much easier to have it already cut up ?? (and what happens when you have used say 4 strands and there is just 2 (strands) of thread left or perhaps enough thread to use again but not a huge amount - do you wind this back on to the bobbin??

The dmc thread box is expensive and whilst I could justify the price of the threads (just over £300 I think), I'm not sure I can justify nearly £400 and I don't think my sealed pot will be that generous. Saving money in my sealed pot has been a lot of fun and as much as I love cross stitch, I don't think I want to spend all my sealed pot money on that. I want to be able to treat me and my OH to something special. I just don't know what. I might start from next year saving my £2 coins until I can save enough for the complete collection of threads.

What does everyone plan to stitch this weekend. OH is watching the football of course tonight and I am hopeful that I can resist the lure of my computer and instead read my book / do some stitching.
