Morning all, hope all are well
made the most of the kids lay in by sneaking an hours stitching in once HD had gone to work

easiest way i had stitching linen explained to me was treat two threads as a square so if you are stitching a ful square you stitch over two threads across by two up, therefore there is still a hole in the middle of each square if you need to do a 1/2 cross stitch
    SPC~12 ot 124

In a world that has decided that it's going to lose its mind, be more kind my friend, try to Be More Kind
  • A bit of a long shot I know, but does anyone have a Bratz cross stitch chart by any chance please? My daughter is bonkers about them, but I can't seem to find a chart. I did try and copy and paste into a cross stitch designer, but it didn't work out very well lol. Any help would be really appreciated

  • It should become clearer when you look at the linen - unlike aida you don't stitch in every hole in the fabric. Let me know if I can answer any queries and I'm sure there will be demos on YouTube to help.

Hope it does. I might have to look at demos on youtube before I start.
I [STRIKE]might[/STRIKE] will have questions when I start on this lol

Sorry I dont know what you mean when you say stitching over 2 threads. To be honest with you I havent got the linen out of the bag yet to have a good look at it. I am waiting to order the threads first. I need to check the bank to see if I can afford them this month or it might be next now. :o I normally do my cross stitching in that way - (Cross Stitch Danish )
I am looking forward to starting it though it look lovely :)

When you look at Aida fabric you see the little holes. Stitching on it, you move across one hole and up one hole to make a half cross stitch - yes? (Or up one and across one, depending on which way you work!)

Loking at linen or evenweave you'll see twice as many holes (which is why 28 count evenweave is equivilent to 14 count aida). Stitching on evenweave means you go across two holes and up two holes to make one normal half cross stitch.

    This has two benefits :
    • If large areas of the background are unstitched the holes that are still visible on ther fabric are smaller and closer together, giving a smoother look
    • If the pattern has lots of quarter or three quarter stitches (or those half height/width narrow crosses that John Clayton uses a lot) it's easier to stitch them as you have an additional hole on each side of your cross stitch because of the fabric, so you don't have to "stab" through the aida to make them.
So - normally you stitch over two threads on evenweave to get the same sized result as on aida. Some of the really large detailed designs ask you to stitch over one thread of evenweave - which can be really tiny and detailed.

Has that made any sense? :rotfl:

I can do you a ;) of the chart if that is any help?
I found the chart kit on Sew and Sew
http://www.sewandso.co.uk/Products/Duck-Wise-Guy-Chartpack__NDP-WG02CHART.aspx#materials which lists the threads as Anchor (it doesn't say on my chart which brand)
I nicknamed him darth duck as about half way through stitching the duck in the wet suit he looked like Darth vaider lol.

Thank you for all your compliments ladies :o.
Had another night of unpicking last night  after I used the wrong colour thread on Kippers ears and had to re-do it. For such a small easy kit I am having a struggle with it!

I have never braved evenweave (although I did buy an evenweave kit - it is somewhere in our house I am sure) as it looked complicated. Think I will stick to Aida for now lol.

  • Have stitched all the lettering for "Walk on The Rainbow Trail" and started on the sun bit. I seem to be concentrating on this as it is flowing well, easy to connect stitching areas if that makes sense.

Would like to hang this and "Live in the Spirit of the Season" on the staircase when they are completed (plenty of time yet the staircase needs decorating - what doesn't). Haven't found "Follow your dreams" but am thinking of buying "Cherish Your Dreams" instead as that has more colour (and a bit of landscape) so would match the other two better.

Have an appointment tomorrow morning which I will have to be very early for so will take it along to do whilst I am waiting.

Right...OWN UP...who posted the reference to medieval enchantment?;)

There I was innocently having a look, thinking how nice it was, then I made the mistake of scrolling just a little further down the page and found Circe The Sorceress.....and I want to stitch her....:o

I have found the chart on sewandso, plus the GORGEOUS 'Bewitched' fabric, by the time I put those and the treasure braids/beads in my basket it was sitting at £61:eek::eek::eek: Thanksfully I have the DMC threads or I would have been looking at £87 lol

However, it was 3am and purchases made at that hour are never the wisest so I made myself close the tabs and think about it. 10 hours later and I still want it so I'm shopping around......darn you medieval enchantment!!!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
