Oh rufus - so sorry to hear about YD being absent, glad you got it sorted, I dont think they think about how worried you`d be having a phone call like that. At least shes going to finish it. Our DD went missing for nearly a year from school, even if OH dropped her there every morning she`d walk in one door and out the other end. Its definately girls....DS been no trouble.
And fancy coming to take your bed away and not bring another..!!!
Sugarspun - I like the idea of the germ catcher. If you find one I`d have one lol
Florence - glad all your children doing well. Its so nice to hear a good story
Just been watching the news with that cruise ship....so sad to think people jumped off in panic...makes me think what I`d do. So sad and I`m sorry if anyone reads this whos someone invoved my heart goes out to you.
Well done Mary on your 22 cards , you`re doing really well .Challenge 2018 - Learn by heart the Book by Wayne Morgan on Amazon - Betfair Football Trading as it helps to supplement my small income :beer:0 -
I was intent on my children achieving their best - often those from larger families struggle. We were on benefits for a few years. I was very careful with money - two of my girls were musical - both became music teachers. I managed to pay for private piano lessons - well I paid half and the girls paid the other out of their paper round wages - got a piano free from a local newspaper advert. Both girls played piano plus one DD played clarinet - was given an instrument by a Church friend. The other DD played Oboe - used the School one for her lessons there and practice - then a boyfriend bought her an instrument.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Sounds like everyones been busy.
We were at wolverhampton for Open Uni today, there was only 3 of us turned up.
Plan 2mor is get my craft bags sorted out, - 2 bags full of odds and sods, when we tidyed up before xmas everything just got chucked outside, 2or Miss Hoodie going out on her bike with dad, so mum (thou she doesn't know yet!) is helping.
Started knitting the cardigan for Aunts xmas prezzie, plan B, couldn't find Aran wool, but found some cerise DK wool, and came across an old Womans weekly pattern, so that do, even if it takes a month, its been started!
I have decided that i'm pulling myself out from the PTA at the end of this school year, theyve decided that for summer raffle instead me doing the collections, they didn't enough presents at xmas (I sent 30 begging letters, all included self addressed envelopes), I got 10 prizes back, they were about £300 worth, instead of lots of little prizes they want a camcorder.........and theyve got a list of items they want from Vprint - when I said look I don'tmind getting 1 here + there when I do my orders (don't charge them), and said posters you've got are £15 each... they don't want to pay that much!. Its suppose to be a committee, but its really if it suits the chair, I'd walk now, but 2 of my OU courses need to be in a position that I can influence and have change (which is a laugh), but if they did check up, my names as the secetary, so in theory should have a role that ties in with the studying.
The community centre where we do table tops + car boots, theyve asked if we want to help them, - picked up a few pieces from Vistaprint in with my orders, as they alway look after us. xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
Sounds like they are taking the mickey a bit Mum2one. I dont blame you for wanting to leave.
Susan, I was watching about the cruise ship too, I dont think I could ever go on one of those, I would be awake at night worrying. I dont like boats and water, I cant swim. I am hoping YD will carry on now, she is saying she wants to be a paramedic, think that came about from when she broke her toe so it might change the next time something happens lol. Still, she went to college on Thursday and hopefully will go tomorrow. She still needs to sort out her work experience for this term though.
Mary, well done with the cards. I was going to get a bit of sewing done yesterday (machine sewing that is) but couldnt be bothered in the end. My Son rang ans asked if I wanted to go and watch his eldest play ice hockey so I wrapped up warm and went with them for the afternoon. I haave been doing a bit of embroidery in the evenings, just some sayings to go on the backs of cushions. Not sure what I am going to put on the fronts yet, I have done some "mum" sayings hoping they might sell for Mother's Day.
Florence - your children have done really well, well done to you xx I brought my two eldest ones up on benefits for a while as my ExH walked out on us when they were young. It was a struggle but we managed. They are both doing what they wanted to do when they were back that age, Son is a Police Officer, just passed his Sergeants exam but what with the cut backs at the moment doesnt look like he will get the promotion for a while. ED is training to be a nurse, she wants to be a midwife eventually.0 -
Hello all :j
rufus - hope everythings settled down at your house now and mattress gets delivered on time. What a good job you looked at the paper.
Every intention of getting something done today with needle and cotton then old friend rang from years back...........we say with every christmas card 'phone new year' and stuff always got in the way. This year she made it .............3 hours !! But worth it to hear how she's getting on even though most of it involved the various illnesses -including gall bladder removal plus problems -should have been OH talking to her and comparing notes !
So no cross stitch got done........well a little bit. I did a tiny heart with a border round it, the intention being to sew it on to a red check fabric heart once I've frayed round the edges a bit to make it look a bit ''primitive''.
So thats tomorrows job.
Hope you're all ok and keeping warm:)I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

Hi everyone, back for another year of christmas prep. I can't wait for christmas 2012 already, hahahaha. In a bid to be frugal i made and sewed a lot of things, lots of felt things. I really enjoyed doing it too. I made a quality street wreath for my mil which went down really well. It was very easy to do and was a bit more interesting than just giving her a tin of quality street!! Some of the things i made were felt hair clip hangers, mr potato head fuzzy felt, iphone holders, bookmarks, pin cushions and needle books...i want to start now to make things so i don't have such a rush next year.0

Hello all :j
scattymam - you have been busy. Makes sense to start early making things I think. I've only done a few fabric hearts so far but got most of my xmas cards done (being thrifty and making use of last years cards cut up and re-cycled).
Had one of those days today sewing when at the end of it theres nothing to show.............oh well, maybe tomorrow .............;)
Hope you''re all ok and staying warm:)I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

hi everyone.
not been doing any crafting lately. cousin turned up at the weekend on a surprise visit. the one who lived with me for months a while back. he came to tell me his bad news . so I've been here there and everywhere with him trying to cheer him up .
I have days like that mary. seem to be non stop all day and when finished seem to have nothing to show for it.
I'm not sure it's great having DS home he needs a new laptop an i7 spec. with 8g ram . so that'll be a £1000+. just as well I knew it was coming. he already has an iMac desk top. from last September.
anyone who has a child doing games design don't let them kid you the course materials are cheap...lol . but it'll be worth it at the end I suppose.
anyhow off to hospital today see if my submarine part they put in my heart is ok ...Challenge 2018 - Learn by heart the Book by Wayne Morgan on Amazon - Betfair Football Trading as it helps to supplement my small income :beer:0
