Hello
Well, its not going well. I messed up big time.
On Friday I spent 15 (I am at my parents and this is a funny keyboard, does not have the pound sign on it!!) so 15 on eyebrow threading at selfridges. I cant believe, it was as if the old me had come back for a while... I feel so extremely stupid and really...
I managed not to eat anything all day until I got on the plane so I didnt spend money on food. But at the airport I bought a whisky for my dad (12 pounds) and some presents for my granma (16 pounds). I cant believe I was so stupid and I spent so ridiculously much. They both were really happy but thats not the point, the point is that I just messe dup my monthly budget and however nice my eyebrows look, I just wasted 15 pounds...
so Im a bit down and actually, it would be nicer to give up the whole thing and just do whatever.
Sorry this is a negative post... oh and now I have to go and buy luggage here cus mine broke at the airport.. no idea how much luggages cost here... so Im off to do more spendingTotal debt £3625.07.

tip one- dont bother to get your beauties done in selfridges.
I wavered for a while, 15 quid on a eyebrwo wax - whereas its a fiver in at least 3 other independent places I know. Its like giving a tenner away for no reason.
One good tip ( for the future) buy presents in advance. I got a gift box gardening mug with a pot lid & a spade spoon ( LOL) for 99p in the Xmas clear outs at Superdrug, perfect for fathers day. I got a aromatherapy type set for 2.50 in the boots clear out- thats mothers day sorted.
It took me a while to get into this sort of mindset.but having a present box is a good idea, when you find PROPER bargains just add them in.
starbucks- pah. Dump them in favour of independents- a coffee in starbucks is like 2 quid, a proper italian cappu at my local little deli is 1.10. I have to say I seldom bother with takeout hot drinks- occasionally have tea form a caff, but NEVER pay over a quid, as I can get a box of tea bags for the same price. I just cant see the point, and I always burn myself on those annoying plastic lids!! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Hi Deliciosa
Don't worry too much, it is very hard keeping the motivation all the way through and it probably won't be the last time. I have had enough of them myself:o Just look at the progress you have been making in the short time you have been on here. Lynz has given you some excellent tips, I'm going to borrow some of them myself! Take care and have a great holiday.Debtfree JUNE 2008 - Thank you MSE:T0 -

another PAH from me on this one. Are you serious lady
You have come SO far in a short time!
Even hardened moneysavers like me slip up- Ive bought lame sandwiches this week, as Ive simply not had the wherewithall to get my act together.
We all fail from time to time! but as I read somewhere once, every failiure is a opportunity to improve. You live, you learn. eg, I KNOW deep down buying sandwiches that arnt even that nice at 2.30 a throw is a stupid waste of money. I just needed to remind myselfSo this morning Ill buy some nice leeks and use up some on-last-legs pots and make a soup for work. And next week, with a touch of luck, Ill be 20 quid better off
Another tip I have for you is to train yourself to think before every purchase
"Do I want or need this" if the answer is want, then I leave it- want is always an EMOTIONAL reaction and these can be conquered!!! :T If you NEED it ( ie will you suffer ill health, death etc) then its a PHYSICAL reaction and these need to be nurtured. Needs include, food, shelter, a decent pair of shoes, a decent coat etc. , transport to work and so forth.
Then, if you decide to buy it
"am I being ripped off" ( or WWMD? what would martin do LOL) Put it in a card in your purse if it helps or a sticker on your cashcard. The amount of times Ive been about to put an order in for something online, or in a shop tempted, and Ivewalked away and saved myself a fortune.
Eg, we NEED pans. We only have like 2Ive ummed and ahhed over these for AAAAGES. Ive been tempted, then think - well if I get them from debenhams or sains I get nectar points. If I buy from tescos I get clubcard points. If I buy them through quidco I get cashback. Maybe if I buy online i can get another discount code as well. In the end I STILL havent bought them! bad news in my kitchen- but better news in my bank as Ive got interest on that money for 2 months plus! Maybe Ill jsut ask for some for Xmas

Lynz reading your post has made me feel quite emotional! I think your thought process regarding spending is lightyears ahead of mine and now I am questioning whether I have ever had a LBM. I am going to print out your reply and carry it with me, read and re-read it. Thanks!Debtfree JUNE 2008 - Thank you MSE:T0

Deliciosa, just wanted to send you a big hug and say cheer up, we all get those days when it feels as if we've really blown it but trust me it's just a blip. And you made your Dad and granma really happy, which counts for a lot.
As for me, I have discovered the canteen scones... alas for both budget and waistline!
I have made up a packet couscous and divided it up in pots so I can take some of that for lunch. It's a Mediterranean one and yummy.
Did you ever try any pasta recipes? I remember you said you were going to.
Have a nice holiday,Miggy

Hi deliciosa - don't take it so hard. We all have blips. If your presents made your dad and grandma happy then that was money well spent. As lynzpower says, look around for somewhere cheaper to get your eyebrows done - it shouldnt cost more than £5 tops

Just to updat on this one. After I said this to you I went to lakeside as I needed to take some work clothes back & buy some trousers. I thought , get it together, buy some pans. Amazingly my best mate was there (| who I havnet seen for weeks cos of work!) and I go wheres robert dyas, she goes what do you need I said, Im buying pans, she said Oh dont bother Ive got a massive box of pans & other kitchen gear Im clearing out- have that
What a result.
I must say, i had a little smirk to myself and thought just saved myself 70 quid there ( I was going to treat myself to posh onesI got to thinking about the amount of times things like this have happened, and they have happened because Ive waited a while before spending.

:T Lynzpower! Amazing what you can pick up when you mention these things to someone - I got a free mahogany filing cabinet from my darling boyfs father when I was complaining my paperwork was all over the place! :j
:hello: I'm back! Had a fab weekend in Wales, though spent far too much. As I have a 4day week at work I'm doing the ultra scrooge thing this week!
Hope you're having a good time Deliciosa and don't worry about the spends! You've done AMAZINGLY well so far!!!! :j :j
