for future reference get yourself on ebay, for 26 quid you can get a camera that you fit up by your rear view mirror and run a cable round to your fag lighter, it starts recording when you start the car, stops a minute after you stop the engine and overwrites the oldest footage. no doubts or he said she said when it comes to insurance claims.

I have one of these, but I'd advise checking where the seller is based (click contact details) if it's China/non-UK then stay away. Pay a couple more quid and get one from a seller in the UK who can be trusted.
  • I imagine this will be a 50/50 outcome.

OP, unless you can prove he fault, you may even lose out for not waiting till she finished her manoeuvre (if she claims she did indicate).

I must say, I do hate drivers that fail to indicate - but yeah you could have waited a bit longer.

Sucks to have to go through this today, especially you know she was wrong, but can't prove it.

*Note to self - get car cam*
  • Even more annoying that I always have a go at my dad for not indicating. I indicate even when I know noone is around.

People that nearly crash everyday on the motorway coz they think they can nip infront of you without indicating. One of my pet hates. Guess who is gonna end up paying for it though? Disgrace.

So do I, but I said this on a post on here and someone said it just makes me complacent and doesn't mean i've looked in my mirror and i'm only doing it out of habit!

I always check my mirror, and you never know when there's a pedestrian coming out of somewhere either, so i put it on to be the safe side.

But on the other hand, I don't always rely on someone else if they have the indicator on. If I see it going on then i'm more inclined to believe they're away to do a manouvre - otherwise it may have not went off since the last time they put it on and they're not aware it's still flashing.

No, it doesn't make you complacent. It makes you nice. :p

Chances are I'll be looking for your indication on my bike before you even know I'm anywhere near you; I can't be doing with drivers who can't be ar*** to flick a switch when knowing thier intentions will let me be on my way, and no sit there for an age for a car that relative to me, takes an utter age to get moving.

A car can be on the opposite side of a bi-ig roundabout from me, but by the time I'm round thier side, they're only just pulling onto the roundabout (and often right into my path when an indication would have told me exactly what lane they'll be in by the time I reach them).

Indicating (not only on roundabouts, but almost all junction-type structures) lets me pick a safe course and be outta their way before they've even started moving.

Of course just putting the indies on and pulling out is rank stupidity, and those alseep drivers who think that it's ok to cut you up just because you got 2x orange flashes as he was doing so, they ought to be fined just to serve them right - But imo you should indicate every time for the benefit of drivers *you don't know are there*.

For a driver (or biker, even more so with some helmets) to say "oh, I only indicate when there are other road users who would see it" to me, says that they have super-powers and x-ray eyes, because otherwise they can't always know if there's someone else present, or who is looking from afar to see their intention.

The same goes for me of course, and I must confess the odd time I've been guilty of slapping the indicator and assuming it was on - only when I came to cancel it did I realise I'd not engaged it at all (/shameface), but I can assure you all that it's entirely possible to use indicators at all times, and also be aware of if it's actually safe to perform the manoeuvre you're indicating - Otherwise I'd be dead 10x times over by now. :p

    What model is that?
I have a dashcam which records pretty good HD video and sound but I have to start it up manually. I wouldn't mind getting one that resides permanently in the car and starts automatically when the cigarette lighter socket becomes live!

Search for car camera on ebay and avoid anything where the seller is based in China or where item is described as "UK based" despite the seller being in China because they will rip you off (I've been stung, but am getting money back from card company). Expect to pay about £30 from a UK seller.

If you add h.264 to your ebay search you'll find a higher quality version of the camera, about £45-£50 ish but this will come from China...

This guy has good reviews of various products but looks like there's nothing for the high quality version yet:

Sounds familiar. I have the 808 #11 keyring camera, and being the HD version was only available from China/HK sellers. Mine arrived though.

After having a bit of a think, I'll stick with what I've got for the time being. I like the idea of something that would start and stop recording automatically and record on a loop, but I also prefer to keep it discreet as some people may not like being filmed if they notice the camera, especially if they are involved in an incident/accident with me and they realise their bad driving's been caught on camera for use as evidence ;) My 808 is very stealthy.

Why should you? You have every right to film whatever you want when you're on a public road. Nobody has any power (not even the police) to stop you filming on public land, it does not matter if it includes peoples faces, number plates, children etc. No matter what people think you do not need signed permission or any of that rubbish. And again, NOBODY has the right to stop you filming!

If someone becomes aggressive because they spot that a camera in your car is recording them, make sure you capture as much of their behaviour as you can, and if at any point you feel you are in danger of assault or whatever then drive away! It will stand up very well as evidence in court against the idiot who is acting a fool - and could possibly turn a simple minor accident claim into them being charged with some sort of road rage or assault!

Just look at how many cyclists are using helmet mounted cameras now, and quite a few have had successful convictions brought to car/van drivers who have attacked them in road range incidents.

Oh yeah and remember - nobody has the right to stop you from filming them, not even the police! :p
  • I've just emailed them the pics I've posted in this thread with a more detailed explanation.

I also remembered that she reversed her car after the incident so it wasn't blocking both lanes. In hindsight I should have took a picture there and then, so there would be no doubt as to what happened. Lets just hope she doesn't try to lie about the position of her car as well as the signalling.
