Buyer wants refund

I recently sold a pair of headphones and said in the listing no returns accepted as I am abroad. Today my buyer has requested a refund simply because he said he "changed my mind".
Do I have to give a refund or can I say no? If I say no can they suddenly open another case for not as described or something to get their money back?
Thanks in advance :)

Have they opened a case to request the return?

As a private seller you are not obliged to refund just because the buyer has changed their mind. Hang onto the email so that in case of a dispute you can prove that this is buyers remorse and nothing else

  • Putting 'no returns' just makes sellers look rubbish. Sure you may not 'have to' accept returns if you are private but what about customer service !!!!!!??

Buyer would need to p.ay to return anyway so just let them return it

I don't agree with this johnny. Why should a private seller selling off their no longer required personal possessions have to offer returns for buyers remorse? Or for that matter offer customer service? Generally the buyer is getting a good deal as the price usually reflects the fact the goods are used and sold with no returns.

A business should include lost postage costs to such cases into it's business model but a private seller shouldn't.

  • Yes they have opened a case, that's where they said that they have changed their minds.

I wouldn't expect a private seller to refund me for something I had bought just because I changed my mind. Guess I am a rubbish seller then!

Usually you can only open 1 case with eBay so if you decline the refund I don't think they will then be able to claim Not As Described. You do risk negative feedback though as retaliation. Again you may be able to get this removed but there's no guarantees

because as said the buyer could just mess seller about I'd they refuse. EBay is hassle so make it less hassle by just taking it back. Buyer would have to pay to return anyway wouldn't they?

I would. If I got an item that was no longer wanted/needed when it arrived then I would be surprised if the seller kicked up a fuss about taking it back. In fact it would put me off using eBay at all again. Although that ship has already sailed.
