  • Hello lovelies!

I discovered this thread yesterday and so spent today having a soak in the bath, exfoliating, moisturising and then I made a batch of soup.

I definitely need to feel more fabulous. Aside from losing weight, most of the time I feel so frazzled and a right scruffbag. I bought some MAC foundation last year....used it about twice. I don't know even know how to put on eye make up! So there's a lot of fabbing to be done before summer.

And just to add: you all seem very nice too! :)
    :hello:

I also have far too much perfume, around 20 big 50/100ml EDP bottles which are carefully stored and mostly at least half full.

Perfume should keep better in the dark, sunlight will make it go rancid. However, if it's opened it might evaporate. I suppose you could try taping the tops up to seal them

LL the businesses sound very exciting, please keep us up to date on your beauty therapy plans. I would love to be a therapist and take a few courses at some point, of course it will have to be after I finish my maths degree and have a job to support it as a hobby :o

I think beauty therapy would make a lovely hobby/sideline business for you. Good luck with the maths degree.

evening all, hope you are feeling just that little bit fabber than you did last year, know i am! started the new year with a nice shower with my aromatics shower gel on my body puff thingy, gosh it smells divine, followed it with an all over moisturise and then an hour and a half walk before the rain started, also stayed within propoints!!

anyhoo, observations from the pub last night
    1. while size is an issue to many of us, i would certainly say, having a great smile, with a happy face, framed with fab hair means a lot more and is a sure fire way to look and feel fab, no one looks fab with a miserable mush!
    2. but alas size is an issue, if nothing else, think of your health, but what made some people look "fatter" than others was wearing the correct size, there were size 12's who looked bigger than size 16's as a size 12 in a 10 dress does not look good, if you see what i mean
    3. another sure way not to look fab was to look "dated", a pudding bowl haircut with old fashioned glasses and a granny dress looks carp on a 90year old, let alone a 50 year old or younger!
    4. 6in heels can look great, but if they make you walk like a duck, don't wear them!

am sure there were more, these were the ones i can remember, think i have been guilty of all of them!

    hth

    anne xx

Loving your "observations". Apart from the 6" heels I have been guilty of most of them in the past. Not since Fab School though.;)

Definitely agree about smiling though - why do so many people look so glum. I know times are tough but hey, smiles are free.

    Evening all. (bends knees)

I haven't really thought about my aims for the year, other than a general look after myself for once.

I have been trying to keep up with the exfoliating/moisturising routines and I do think it's working. I tend to get very dry skin on my outer thighs but they are now feeling smooth and I'm sure all the rubbing must be helping with general flab that accumulates round there.
I'm still a bit hit/miss at taking make up off at night so I must try and get that routine firmly fixed.

As part of my fabbing I'm hoping to use up some of the toiletries that I seem to have accumulated, I do browse on the no unnecessary toiletries thread and by wearing perfume every day, it should help me use up what I've got. A lovely friend gives me samples to try and they do build up.

Following on from the earlier comments about people watching, I'm truly amazed at how some people leave the house looking like they do! I know that I will often look scruffy in paint splattered trackies and sweatshirt, but at least they fit.
I live in a seaside town and if I'm out in town at night, then it's almost as though half the girls out have got magic mirrors. Absolutely amazing.

*putting claws away* I'm off to bed now nite my fab friends x

    just a quick question
LL-Start a couple of little sideline businesses - beauty therapy & bric-a-brac dealing
As you know I 'm wanting to start a business but I've got so many questions - not least about how it affects benefits, just wondered if you know where I can get advise on this stuff. It may not be possible yet but it is one of my longer term aims -really don't want to be on benefits for ever. x

My situation is that I cannot draw my pension until November of this year, now that OH is in care he will have to forfeit half of his private pension and I am entitled to the other half.

So technically unless I find work, once the carer's allowance is removed in approx 2 months time, apart from OH's pension, I will have no regular source of income until November. I will be entitled to some state benefits but I would really prefer not to go down that route - at least not for any length of time.

As you say earnings can affect any state benefits and obviously I do not want to contravene any rules. So if I cannot find paid work thus avoiding the need to claim benefits then the beauty therapy will have to be delayed until November. Ditto the bric-a-brac business.

However, it's not exactly black and white. You are allowed to sell your own personal possessions and/or household goods, ebay, car boots, auctions etc. The ruling is "If you have bought an item with the intention of selling it on for profit then you are a business". If it's your own stuff then that's ok.

It's a bit of a moot point isn't it. I have a loft full of "stuff", not to mention cupboards full and the garage. Last time I cleared the loft by about 50% and made over £1100 - it's now full again.:rotfl:

So even if I'm not specifically buying in to trade I probably have enough to sell to keep me going for several months on a "personal sale" basis so will not be contravening any rules or regulations.

It is a very complicated set up and there are all sorts of exemptions that will enable you to retain some or all benefits (probably by switching them around and calling them something else:rotfl:) so I agree your best bet is to talk it over with a benefits advisor.

Good luck anyway. I commend you for not wanting to stay on benefits. Like you I'm determined to stand on my own two feet and make my own way, just as soon as I can. What do you fancy doing.

    Hi all,

Callisto - I must admit I didn't enjoy xmas that much this year, just couldn't really be bothered with all the fuss. Your dress is lovely, would agree that could wear a vest under it in a complimentary colour if you feel it's a bit low.

Liz-Paul - I'm 30 and a size 14/16 (though hoping to lose more) and at the moment I'm wearing things like knitted tunics, longline but fitted jumpers (asda have some cheapish ones that skim quite nicely, I like the ones with the triangle hems as I think they look more flattering) and am being a bit more brave and trying knee to calf length skirts with thick tights and boots. Can change them up a bit with accessories and dress up a bit if needed but still comfortable for everyday.

Annem - loving the observations, have definately been guilty in the past of the size one. I think I thought that if I didn't buy the next size up then I wasn't really that size :o have had to accept that for now look much better in clothes that fit properly, even if they are the next one up!

We do seem busy at the moment so don't have time to reply to everyone, but loving all the resolutions. Have been making some lists today and started on the healthy eating, wanted to start the exercise but shoulder is still twinging me a little so decided not to risk making it worse and will wait until tomorrow. Have ordered a digital scales and a skipping rope from Argos to collect tomorrow - have a feeling am going to look like a bit of a muppet skipping round the block of flats but ah well - there was a woman on the end who was practicising the bagpipes outside all summer so at least I'll be quiet! :rotfl:Apart from that not done much today, declutter the tops of the drawers and did a bit of writing but should really have got more done. Will try and get out earlyish tomorrow and hopefully will make me a bit more motivated.

    http://www.playweightwatchers.co.uk/

Now I'm not a weightwatchers fan - I actually do the rival diet (SW) but I just saw their new advert on the telly and thought it was ideal for us all - its doesn't mention weight loss (as far as I can tell) but its all about bettering yourself and being FAB.
Aleisha Dixon is in it at the end (and its her song) but its full of real women (and a few men) that have transformed themselves.
Listen to the words of the song - quite apt!

    Thanks for that

"Play the Game of Life" - what a great mantra.

Sorry, can anybody tell me why the word 'to' has been highlighted in red in everyone's posts? I know this is something obvious and I am being stupid, but I have never noticed it before.

Doesn't do this on mine. Sorry can't advise - not very good with technology - perhaps someone else will know.

    Anyway, a big warm welcome.

  • Hi peeps

    I wanna be fab too!

Sick of being told how i USED to be really pretty
Sick of having a wardrobe full of old, unflattering clothes that make me look even fatter
Sick of not wanting to take any photos coz I know how awful I look
Sick of thinking 'please dont let me bump into anyone I know coz I look like a tramp' whenever I go out and couldnt be bothered to get ready
Sick of seeing really nice clothes/designs/styles and knowing i am too fat for them to look nice
Sick of myself moaning about being fat and frumpy and STILL not doing anything about it...SO IT STOPS NOW!

I am swtiching off the laptop, going to the bathroom, will put on a pore cleaning thing, exfoliate my face, and might even have a quick shower so me and DH can have some fun tonight, coz I'm sick of not enjoying a proper physical relationship with my DH coz I'm fat!

Thanks gang....feeling the fabulosity coming on already...;-)
