Which moisturiser/day cream do you use on your face?
I'm almost at the end of my Garnier Ultralift which I do like but wondered if anyone had a suggestion for an alternative, preferably for less than £10.
I'm 40, have normal/combination skin and thats not particularly sensitive and would like a facelift/botox in a bottle please!:rotfl::rotfl:Everhopeful09 wrote: »Not feeling very fabafter haircut, still have roots so have to go back tuesday to have corrected (for free) and dont like cut either as she didnt really listen just got to wait for it go grow, so having a vino to cheer myself up! Just back from the Spice group curry night and I had a fab time. One of the "girls" (none of us are younger than 35;)) from horseriding was there and we had a good chat and I sat next an older gay bloke who called himself a "queen" and was hilarious, really good company. The food was incidental really. Would definitely go again. So glad I made the effort to try something new - its paying off. I guess that classes itself as social fabbing!:rotfl:0

Good morning all.
Fabbiness today is going to be going for a nice long walk in about an hour, then come back to fab the bathroom up. Then I will feel fab as I settle down to write the final part of this incredibily complex assignment I'm writing. Then much later I'll write the other one I need finish off. Hopefully leaving me feeling fab as I go to bed stress free before the final push tomorrow to submit before the deadlinefinal unsecured debt to repay currently £8333Proud to be Dealing With my DebtDFW Nerd 1154 Long Haul 1550 -
Good morning Everyone
Sparkles - sounds like you are in for a Fab time - so much positivity is fab in itself.
Well I've had a wakeful night, didn't nod off till gone 1-00 am and then awake again 4-30 am so have decided to post early. I'll just be nice and quiet so as not to wake DS2 and girlfriend up just yet.
I shall be dead on my feet later.:o
WW - your evening sounds good. In fact your new improved social life sounds really great. I really must make the effort.
My GP said something interesting the other day and I've been mulling it over. I told him how tired I was and he said that as well as being part of the recovery process from all the stress, part of the problem was that I had nothing "nice" to look forward to.
As he so rightly pointed out if OH had been well, we would have been like many 50 plus healthy people, the kids independent, no money worries and free to do as we please - holidays, weekends away, lots of nice outings etc. As he reminded me, what do I have - visits to the nursing home.
Last nights visit was particularly gruelling. I came away feeling exhausted and drained, tearful and upset and I just knew I wouldn't be able to sleep.
MY GP is right . From now on I must try and include some nice little treats and outings - just for me. They will have to be cheap and cheerful and TBH not too energetic.
Time for the first "T"0 -
LL - what about the odd trip to the cinema or local theatre? A bit of escapism? Maybe the occasional beauty treatment or massage? Visiting a friend for a cup of tea and a natter? No parents, no OH - just for you? Do you like gardens etc? I'm sure I saw a deal to go to look at gardens somewhere? All quite serene and not too taxing. Do you like swimming? Gentle and you could go at your own pace and supposed to be very good for stress.
Will have a think for you.....
The sun is shining here and it seems to be a nice day so far. I'm going to have a shower and then take the dog to the water park for a walk around the lake for some fresh air and a bit of exercise.
I've given in and started taking antihistamines again - hayfever is back:(. I'll have to get to the doctor this week for the hardcore drugs! I've had it since a child and really suffer, even with the strongest stuff the doctor can give me - never been a BBQ or outdoor event fan because of it. Oh well, its just something I have to live with.
The furniture looks nice and I'm quite pleased with it - only the sofas to go now - they should be here in about 3 weeks I think. Will have to check. The problem is that when you decorate a room some of the others look tired and tatty in comparison! Its a bit ike painting the Forth bridge isn't it? Never ending.
Right shower time and then a good walk for an hour. Not sure about the rest of the day but we'll see what happens......0 -
Dannie - I think this one is is particularly apt for you;)
I may be wrong but I think one of the reasons you are struggling with "Frump to Fab" is because you are finding it difficult to get your head round it. This is not uncommon when you first start out.
TLC
Frump to Fab is not about being a perfect Size 10 and having a wardrobe full of expensive designer gear - unless of course that's what you want. If so, then by all means go for it.
For me Frump to Fab is about a little bit of TLC - just for me - to improve my appearance yes of course, but much more than that - to improve my health and general well being.
I started the whole Frump to Fab when I was at my lowest ebb roughly 18 months ago. I won't dwell on how awful everything was - the past is the past. However, l looked and felt terrible.
I knew things were bad but one day my son took a photo of me, I was horrified. I burst into tears. The person in that photo could not possibly be me - she looked at least 70, hagged & ill, and frankly, a mess.
I went and took a long hard look in a full length mirror and resolved right there - things were going to change, no matter how long it took.
It has been a long rocky road but I am gradually feeling a little better and I certainly look a whole lot better than I did. I still have some way to go.
I am still a hale and hearty size 16 (previously 18 going on 20). I am happy enough with that. If I drop another dress size then I shall be happier still, if not, well it doesn't matter.
For me the whole ethos of Frump to Fab is about being as healthy as I can, feeling good, feeling if not happy, then at least content, calm and serene. It's about looking and being the best that I can be, making the best of what I have.
I know we've discussed this before but I think it does no harm to quickly go over this next bit again.
I do think that women today have incredibly busy and stressful lives and that some times we "lose" ourselves somewhere along the way.
We become so busy running around, looking after everyone else, holding down jobs, running a home that we sometimes forget to take a little care of ourselves. We take care of everyone else's needs but forget our own.
We allow ourselves to always come bottom on the list.
Why do we do this do you think? Is it really just lack of time or is it something a little deeper and more complex? I think it is the latter.
I think in some ways we feel guilty about thinking about ourselves and our needs. We feel that by taking care of ourselves, "messing about with clothes, make up, fashion etc" it makes us somehow frivolous and vain.
This is so wrong.
I think it's worth taking a look at the bigger picture here - why how we look does matter.
It's about who and what we are, what others think about us, how they treat us. If we neglect ourselves and ignore our needs - what message does this send out to others - that they can neglect and ignore us too. We don't matter enough. If we don't value ourselves why should others value us.
We should take a little pride in ourselves, the way we look, the way we live, how we dress, what we eat, whether or not we are as fit and as healthy as we can be.
These things are important. It is about dignity, pride, self respect, self esteem (more about this in a minute). It's not about being vain and shallow.
Please remember it takes a long while to become a Frump. You didn't just go to bed a gorgeous princess one night and wake up the next day looking like some decrepit old hag. Becoming a Bag Lady takes time. Undoing the damage will take time.
The journey to Fabdom isn't an overnight one - unfortunately.
Remember the old fable about the Tortoise and the Hare, take it slowly and steadily and you will get there.
If you slip back from time to time - and you will - don't worry just start again.
Just remember a little daily dose of TLC is all it takes.
Eat well, sleep well, learn to rest a bit, try a few minutes meditation or just sitting quietly, a beauty treatment, a few minutes exercise, a bit of fresh air.
All these little things will add up over time and gradually you will feel and look better, you will be fitter and stronger. You will feel calmer and better equipped to deal with what life throws at you.
I know some of you will put up your hands and say you can't do it because you have issues of low self esteem.
Having low self esteem and ignoring your own needs become a vicious circle. "I'm worthless, why should I bother, no-one cares about me, I'm ugly, I'm fat, no-one will notice me anyway, I can't be bothered, it's too hard, I'll never do it, I'm too old, it's too late now".
That vicious circle needs to be broken. You have to start somewhere.
For me when I looked in the mirror what did I see. I saw a tired, lined, ashen face of course. No surprise given what I was going through.
However, I also saw unwashed hair, horrible trackie bottoms, a dirty soiled top, shapeless baggy cardigan..
I thought OK - the tired lined face may be unavoidable but the rest? Unforgiveable and inexcusable. I promptly got showered, washed my hair and put clean clothes on. It must have taken all of 10 minutes.
It was my first step. After months, years, of putting OH first it was my first bit of TLC.
Dannie - don't know how bad things are for you - but that's where you start.
Back to basics. Start small. A little bit of TLC everyday. Go back to the beginning of this thread. There are lots of tips and advice from all of us, it's not just me pontificating all the time.:rotfl:
If you have a specific question or worry I'm sure one of us will be able to help.

Glad you are pleased. Yes you are right - do one room and it looks lovely but then you look at the rest and think "Oh dear" - or words to that effect. :rotfl:
Am going to nip to Dunhelm soon and get some ideas. Going to do a mini Fab in my sitting room - your fault - you've given me the bug. A fresh look for summer.
I received a nice little cheque yesterday, so will buy a few bits and bobs for a cheap makeover, paint & furniture is generally ok - just a few new accessories I think.
There's a craft fair tomorrow I'm thinking of going to and I thought I might lash out and invest in National Trust membership this week. Lots of nice country houses and gardens this neck of the woods. Not too taxing.
Sorry to hear about your hay fever - oddly enough I seem to have grown out of it - at last.:D Not had it for about 3 years now.0
