Adelight - glad to hear your nan is taking some nutrition now.

This is so important - especially for elderly people who get dehydrated very quickly. When FIL was in hospital much of his confusion was due to dehydration. Now that he is at home and is being fed and watered properly his mental faculties, memory etc are much improved.

Many elderly people "don't want to be a bother". They don't drink much because they don't want to be a nuisance by requesting the loo too often. Then of course they get dehydrated.

Those fortified drinks and yoghurts are a boon because at least they are getting some calories.

It also transpired that when FIL was in hospital they discovered he was quite malnourished, which is probably why he collapsed in the first place. He was eating a reasonable amount of food but not eating good food - ready meals, cakes and biscuits. Just like my mum and dad are doing now, which is why I am so concerned about their diet.

I'm going to see if my sister can have a talk to them about this - she is Dad's blue eyed golden girl (I'm the one he can just about tolerate:rotfl:) so he might listen to her. Failing that my cousin comes in handy at times like this. She works in a hospital (as an administrator not a medic). However, because she works in a hospital they are more likely to take her advice.

    Parents - eh - worse than children.:rotfl:

Adelight well done on getting your Nan to take some sustenance. Maybe she was finding eating tiring? I often do; and these days need to factor in a lie-down after a meal. If she was too tired to even roll herself over, she'd maybe be thinking "Oh, I don't have the energy to eat" at which point it becomes a bit of a vicious circle. Having congenial company while you have a meal is good too; (again, just my opinion - I enjoy my lunch more if I have a dog here for company) so if you were there chatting to her, she'd perhaps enjoy the food more than if she was just sitting alone to eat.:o

Lucy's been walked and fed; and Mr LW has just called to say he's leaving work, so I'll have to get our dins started shortly.;)
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)

LW - sounds like Lucy has settled right in?
Adelight - good to hear that your Nan is responding to you at least.
LL - I know what you mean about missing a bit of "slap and tickle". My situation is completely different to yours, my exOH just wouldn't get intimate after our wedding (I know!) and refused to talk about it, get help etc. It was one of the major reasons that we split (his lack of interest and not wanting to resolve things) as I felt completely unwanted, unfeminine and useless. Its now coming up to the 2 year anniversary for me of the last time I even held someone's hand let alone anything else so I think I'm destined to be a born again virgin spinster:rotfl:

Work was bonkers again today - I was taken off teaching for the day to do all of the GCSE admin and it took 7 hours of slog to get things right and up to date. Still got loads to do over the weekend too.....bummer.:(

Looking forward to a quiet night and a bit of telly - life in the fast lane! (No wonder I'm celibate!)

LL i could not agree more with everything you said. not wanting to be a bother has landed her in hospital :( she skipped her diuretic tablets whenever she was going out or was very tired which just made her more swollen and dehydrated and then what happens? kidney failure and hospital.
if the family weren't around 9am-9pm i doubt the nurses would have time to get her to drink as it is tiny sips at a time and she can't even hold the straw herself atm. if there was just one nurse who could go round the ward spending 20 minutes here and there with people it would make such a difference but every hospital seems to be understaffed.

she has a little lump in her throat which creates a coughing/choking sensation with dry or hard foods and a small appetite, so for the last year she has been eating organic toddler meals, hot mushy weetabix, soup and stuff like that. she's been having good quality food but not enough of it so has lost a lot of weight, she's been using the loose skin on her arms as a pillow the last few days it's that much weight!

Ah God bless her. It's awful to watch them isn't it. I know that hospitals are seriously under staffed and I suppose it's fair to say that highly qualified nurses cannot really afford to spend time feeding patients. I do think they ought to bring back auxiliary nurses though to take up the slack.

My OH is the same - meal times take an eternity. Luckily the carers at his home are very kind and patient and the staffing ratios are good.

WW - Do you mean to say "Gentlemen Callers" aren't beating a path to your door???? Are they not queuing round the block???? Maybe a fishing expedition is required.

TBH - even if they were I'm afraid I'm just not interested. My OH has said that if I were to meet someone he would wish me only happiness. I've told him not to worry just yet I haven't the energy to be bothered.:rotfl:

As a matter of interest - where would "ladies of a certain age" meet unattached males anyway. Any ideas anyone??? Internet dating??? No thanks.

    Bring back matchmakers!!!

    Internet dating !!!! No way!:eek::eek::eek:
To be honest I'm not that bothered most of the time - just every now and again I'd like a bit of male company and adoration!
I'm not sure where you'd find an unattached man - for me unless I fell over someone in Tescos or ran someone over I think it'll be a long wait:rotfl: I met my last partner through work but I'd never do that again - I am getting out and about a bit more and trying to expand my social circle but that seems to be mostly women. Good job I'm not that interested at the moment. I'm only 40 though and it does seem a long time ahead of me to be on my own forever. Maybe in the future......

I did manage 7 hours of sleep last night but was up at 6am - I think my hayfever is on the way (I get it very badly) as I always seem to have sticky eyes of late. Must make a docs appt to get some of my hardcore antihistamines soon.

Quite a busy day in store today for me - need to pop to get my fringe cut, go to the library, do the food shopping and cleaning and finally do a big wodge of schoolwork. I'm going to watch the Manchester marathon tomorrow and then am going for an Indian sunday lunch with one of the social groups so need to get a lot of the chores out of the way today.

Its not raining here yet either so the first job will be a nice long walk with the dog - the poor thing has been permanently soggy this week so it'll cheer him up too.
I'll give it another 30 mins or so and then set off for a bit of a yomp.
Hope everyone has a good day.

    Morning all :hello:

So many struggles............I'm afraid I've got no advice for anyone. But I am thinking of you all

I woke up feeling angry. I had the house to myself last night, so I caught up on a couple of episodes of Dark Blue (my new fave show, lol) and had a pampering shower. So I should've been relaxed this morning but I wasn't - strange.

I've typed - well, hammered really - a nasty letter to son's ex. When I say nasty, I mean NASTY. It won't be sent, I'll draw a pic of her face on the back then shred it while pretending it's actually her :D I've done a few minutes of yoga and now feel very calm. Hope it lasts, lol.

I'm concentrating on food atm. The past couple of days I've eaten fish, potatoes, ham, seeded bread, home-grown salad leaves, cereal and fruit. I need to get some veg into me. Wispa bars are now available in bite-sized pieces so I had to sample them :D But I didn't have a craving for them and stopped after a few, there are still some in the bag.

I'm back after my lappy crashed and have now sorted it out by wiping it and starting again from scratch. Most things were backed up, including photos and uni work so that's a lesson to learn for the future and continue to back up everything.

I'm full of a head cold so no exercise which is a shame as the big run approaches shortly. So this weekend will be minimal chores, lots of rest, some longer dog walks dodging all this rain and attempting to study and get some assignment writing done as the deadline also rapidly approaches too!

As long as you don't send said letter..............

The food lists sounds good - nice and healthy.

Well it's damp, grey and miserable - just for a change:rotfl:

I've decided that what I need today is colour. I will wear something bright and cheery. First my bath then off to the shops, I will then raid my garden for spring flowers and blossoms and fill the house with them and add some more colour.

Have done my exercises - currently am sitting here with my face lift face mask on. Need to do a bit of clean up, some ironing.

Then tonight it's a family dinner with parents, sister, BIL and niece before they go to Oz. Will glam up.:D and hopefully eat some thing delicious and spicy.

    Have a good day.

I'm another one concentrating on food this week (in a good way!). The past week I have just not had any time, energy or inclination to cook anything more than chuck it in the oven or microwave type stuff or what I could grab at work.
THIS IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH!! I'm doing all of the external fabbing stuff as routine now but none of it will work if the insides are full of rubbish:mad:

So I've been shopping and bought loads of fruit and veg and some nice things to cook from scratch - proper meals - and some nice wholemeal rolls and healthy fillings and snacks for work so there are no excuses.
Tonight's tea will be bean and veggie fajitas (I'm a vegetarian) and some nice berries for dessert.

I also popped in to get my fringe cut and no longer look like an old english sheepdog - the lovely Darren does it for free too (in between proper cuts). Also got new library books, mowed the front lawn before it monsoons again and hoovered and dusted downstairs. The hoover has decided to over heat and switch itself off so can't do upstairs yet - shame:rotfl:

Lunch time now and then some schoolwork to do before the next dogwalk. Busy busy....
